This is my first forum, truly indicative of how addicted I am to golf. I started playing golf 2 yrs ago after many years of getting the nudge from my brother. I wish I had started years ago, because I can't get enough.

The first year I played I didn't break 100 until the very end of the season. I was fortunate to have been able to play quite a few rounds during our winter down in FLA that year, so I guess it kept my swing somehat in the groove. Last year I scored pretty consistently in the mid to low 90's. This year I hope to break 90 and keep it there consistently!

We'll see about that though... I like to set the bar high!

Looking forward to talking to all of you guys.

Welcome to the fray. It can get pretty messy in here at times... people are passionate about things. But that's golf, huh?

Welcome to the board. "I wish I had started years ago" is the motto of many of your new friends here too Congrats on breaking 100. I've been playing almost as long as you have and have yet to break 100. You've made quite an accomplishment.

I'm new here too. But I've been playing golf since I was 10. Just be happy you live in a warm state!! Once you get addicted the game, winters are brutal!! I live in Montana and we go 5 months with the courses closed. I trie to make it out every time the temp gets over 40 in the winter months. Even now, we're still playing around snow drifts on the course!!! Anybody else from the cold north on here??

Yes to both. You know you're addicted when you play and it's freezing

, and the weather change..well let's just say that I stomp my feet pretty much all winter (although oddly enough I do ski), and make sure I go somewhere warm at least twice during the winter months.

I too am new to this forum, I have recently picked up golf again after 15 years of doing other sports. I managed to get the handicap down to 8 when I was about 16 and now are struggling around a little bit higher than that.

One thing I noticed was the massive change in technology in golf. I think it is a lot easier now than it was because the golf clubs are so much more forgiving. Which I am all in favour of! Another thing I have noticed since beginning again is how addictive this sport is, I just want to get out and hit balls all day. i have to hold back and let life get in the way.

Anyway its good to read all the pointers and tips and also find out what is going on in the world of golf.

Nice to meet you all.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
