So it took three years for Sergio to find his game after his break-up with then girl friend Megan Norman.

Will it take that long for Tiger to get his game back?

I know for myself, whenever there is a big change in life and my head is not clear, my game goes south for a long time until everything clears up.  Well, even after it clears up, it still takes additional months to get the game back.

Seems to me, Sergio had a similar experience.  My guess is, Tiger is also going through a similar slump.  Until he gets his affairs in order (I assume he has since the divorce has been final over a year), he'll need additional few more months to get his game back.

Does that mean 2012 is the turning point for Tiger???

Just wondering...

Sergio taking three years to come back means it took Sergio three years to come back. Tiger doesn't have anything to do with Sergio. You can probably draw similarities between a hundred golfers without finding a pattern. I believe Tiger will be back , perhaps not in every sence of the word, in 2012. But I've said so since he first came back, so what do I know. Mostly, I want him to come back.

i don't think tiger is suffering from a broken heart as sergio was. if you are in love with a woman, at least from my personal perspective, you don't do what tiger did. i can see a slip up or two as you're rich and powerful and can have any woman you want, so that's gotta be tough. but you just don't act in a way that will not only hurt, but utterly humiliate her. i think tiger is suffering more of an identity crisis than anything. we know the image of tiger woods, and maybe that's who he was trying to be, then completely lost his real self in the process.

The difference between Sergio and Tiger at this point is that Sergio's winning again. Two in a row today.

I think Zeph had it right... even though there may be similarities they are different people and aren't going to handle things the same.  You can't take the fact that Sergio has gotten his game back to mean that Tiger's comeback is just around the corner, although it might be.  With Tiger, too, there were injury issues as well as a major swing overhaul that took place as well.  I personally do think that 2012 will be a good year for Tiger, I think that his game is coming around and that some of the changes he made are now more just apart of how he swings and he doesn't have to think about them so much.  I guess we'll have to see though.  And I also agree with Zeph in that a lot of my optimism about Tiger is that I also want him to be back.

Breaking up with the girl you love is quite different than cheating on your wife with hundreds of prostitutes... imho

It's Morgan, not Megan, FWIW.

Sergio's recent wins have nothing at all to do with what Tiger may or may not do in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does well in 2012, but in all of my ponderings about it, I doubt whether Garcia's current form is something I would consider as having an influence upon it.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I guess most people misunderstood what I was trying to say, or rather I did not make myself clear.

I was trying to get at the fact that both Sergio and Tiger has/had too many distractions off the course causing their decline inside the rope.  Since Sergio has, as it seems, regained his inner peace he has won two in a row now.  I too am hoping that Tiger's distractions are well behind him so that he can focus on his golf game.

Personally, I don't care whether it is Tiger, Sergio, or Rory, I just want to see someone be as dominant as Tiger was.  This game is way too difficult, but seeing someone be in another stratosphere with their game is amazing.  If Rory or Sergio can be as dominant-or anyone else for that matter-I certainly would tune in a lot more.  Since the fall of Tiger, I haven't been as interested in watching golf.  Maybe a few minutes here and there, but I am no longer glued to the TV on Sunday to see who wins as I was when Tiger was at his best.

Shorty--yes you are correct.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
