One of the local dept stores had dropped the price of a bag of 500 2-3/4" tees from $15 to $10.

I keep eyeballing them every time I go in but today I decided to just go buy a bag at $10. They'll last me all next season given how often Im playing.

So I get over there and there are two bags left.....marked down yet again to $3.75 !

The stock gent was out there and shows me a third bag that said $7.50, but he said he'd mark it down to $3.75 since the others were that price and so I walked out with 1500 2-3/4" tees for just over $10 !

When I was growing up, the sporting goods store where I bought all my golf stuff (or rather, where my parents bought all my golf stuff) had this wooden barrel full of golf tees. Whenever you purchased something like a dozen balls or more money than that, the clerk would grab a handful of tees out of the barrel and toss them in your sack, free. Great marketing idea.

That is genius!  The only thing that would have made it better were if they let the customer grab the tees themselves instead of the clerk.  Nevertheless, still awesome!

At the PGA Merchandise Show this past January I got a comp package of Martini golf tees. I swear they are unbreakable. I have used the same tee for the past 6 months. I'm not kidding - one tee, 6 months. They're made out of some kind of polymer resin; they're like hard rubber. You only have to carry one tee in your pocket - on par 3's I just search the ground for a broken tee to use, but use the Martini for all driver shots.

I can honestly say I've never purchased tees......I usually pick up more than I break.  For what it's worth, I prefer a nice medium length tee when hitting driver.  It's long enough to tee the ball high without sticking it deep into the turf.  It pops in the air without breaking as often.  My 2 cents.....

If I'm hitting any club that's NOT a driver, a broken tee picked from the box is fine because I tee everything low.....just above the grass.

I haven't bought a tee in at least 20 years.  People who do buy them leave them scattered all over the tee boxes, so I just pick them up.  That's a much better deal than even $3.75 for 500.  I start each round with a couple in my pocket, and by the end of the round I've usually got 6 or 7.  I don't break one that often, so I can often get 18 holes from a single wooden tee.

The only problem with this is that youre not the only person who thinks like this. I was doing the same thing, just finding tees, but sometimes you dont have one, cant find one and youre on a longer hole where youd like to play a driver shot but dont have a tee tall enough to do it with.

I generally pick up my tee if it doesnt break, most dont, so for $11 Im covered for probably the next 20 years myself...and I'll ALWAYS have a long tee when I want to use my driver. So for me its the best deal overall since Im covered regardless...and got it cheap. :)

I bought 1000 tees back when I was in college (I'm 51 now).  Sold most of them to a family friend who was making mason jars with embroidered tops for Christmas gifts (embroider something about golf on the lid and fill them with tees).  Found a bag of them in my "golf box" the other day while searching for something.  I bought some long tees when I got my first large volume driver (and have at least that many left) but other than that haven't bought a tee in 30 years.

$11 for 1500 tees was a steal. Im VERY happy I managed to hold out for them and no one else got them. :)

I used to use cast off tees but they always seemed too long or too short. Considering how cheap they are to buy I just do that and don't worry when my cheap natural brown coloured tee goes flying sideways or explodes (they usually break). My home course does keep a box for broken tees on every par 3 and short par 4 for people who tee off with irons.

I don't search for a tee when I need one, the tee pocket in my bag is stuffed full.  I just always start the round with a couple in my pocket and rarely have to reload from the bag.  I just pick them up as I go.  I've got a few hundred in the bag, and when it gets too full, I just quit picking them up.  I also have a couple hundred in my spare bag.  Length doesn't matter to me as I tee the ball low anyway even for my driver.  Almost any standard style wood tee works for me.  I don't bother with the so called "zero friction" plastic tees, because they are so flimsy that it's hard to stick them in the ground straight.

I visited the PGA Show in Orlando this past January.  There were numerous tee reps touting their product and giving away samples.  Several of the samples like The Martini Tee and a few with the notches are made of semi hard plastic..They have a slight give and hence don't break.  I still have all of them.  I frequent places that have their own tee.  The orange tee of World Woods, The bright red one of Muirfield, the Natural Wood of Bandon Dunes......When I visit those type establishments, I grab a very generous amount.  It's nice to pull one out down the road and reminisce of the course the tee represents.  That Martini Tee though is built so you lean it forward about 20 degrees.
