Hello all,

I currently have an r7 superquad and I am looking to get a new driver. I'm thinking about picking up the r11 since it dropped in price to make room for the r11s. Are there any other clubs that you guys would recommend a long the lines of taylormade. I hit a callaway razr hawk and wasn't that impressed.

Right now the r7 is a 10.5, should I consider going with a lower loft like a 9.5? Any feedback is welcome.

i'd suggest going to something adjustable, since you already have one that's adjustable (you may have buyers remorse if you get one without weights or something since you're used to it)...i personally have an R11 and it's not leaving my bag anytime soon. As for the loft change, i'd get fitted for whichever driver you choose, since a fitting will determine which as better for your launch/spin numbers. either way, good luck in pickin up a new stick!

Thanks for the reply! I'm going today after work to take a look and I'll probably be picking up 2 more wedges as well, as I need to get my short game improved.

the new vokey sm4's destroy golf balls lol if you need reviews, search for threads on here. TST has had numerous reviews/opinions shared in any of the wedge threads. a new 54 and 58 are in my sights as well for spring

Thanks, I was just reading about the vokeys. That was going to be my first demo but I'm thinking of trying the Cleveland cg15. I have a 46 degree PW now and looking at getting a 54 and 58 as well. I have an old used 60 degree I've been using and doing well out of the sand with it but anywhere else it has been dreadful. But that also has to do with my lack of practice with that club. My main focuses for practice will be hitting my wedges, hybrids, and putting this year.

I have the R11 and absolutely love it! It'll be in the bag for a while. As far as wedges, have you thought about a 52* and a 56*? I think if you went with the 54*, you would have a big gap between the PW, where as the 52* would close that gap between the 2 clubs.

The r11 is a good driver and wouldn't be a bad choice.  I have a Titleist 910D2 and love it.  I think that the adjustability of both clubs is nice but like that the lie/loft adjustments on the 910 are independent of one another.  As fas as wether or not you should change from a 10.5 to 9.5 I honestly have no idea; you really haven't given us enough info about your swing.  In general though, amateurs tend to play too little loft so I think you'd be fine with a 10.5, especially given your handicap.  If you do with a model with adjustability you'll always have the option to knock that down a bit too.

Yea I think that makes more sense as well. There would be a pretty big gap, do you think having a 56 degree is good enough to have as my high loft club? I see most people have at least a 60 degree.

Thanks for input tristan. Ill have to post a video of my swing when I get a chance to give you guys a better idea. Its not pretty but gets the job done. but thats also what I plan on fixing lol.

Philly (i posted a reply but it has on hold or something for review) but anyway I agree with you, I think that makes more sense. I see most golfers have a 60* in their bag, do you think I would be missing out on not have a 58 or 60*?

I don't see too many carry a 58* or 60* in their bag. I use my 56* for those 80 yd and in shots. I love hitting half and three quarter shots into the green with my 56*.  Once you learn the yardages of the 52* and 56* you will probably never use a 60*. So to answer you question, no. you won't be missing out.

The 60* is like the 3 point jump shot around the greens (live by it, die by it).  I personally love my 60* its all a matter of opinion but at the end of the day when you need to make birdie to win the match, that 90yard full swing 60 is easier to hit exact distance than the half swing 56 for me.

Thanks for all the replies! I picked up the r11 and I also picked up the cleveland cg16 54* and 58*. I'm going to really practice hitting those wedges and see where I sit, If i need to pick up a 48* pw or a 52* wedge then I will. I just need to get out there and practice with them and go from there. Thank you for all the replies it helped a lot.

    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
