Tell me, what benifet is there in going to a driving range. My skillset in golf is very poor. I have been to a driving range a few times and saw little value on what I did. Tell me your thoughts on this.

I am new to this forum so be nice.

Also, as we go along on this, there is something I want to present to owner/managers/pros that could be very benificial to your company

Going to the range allows you to work on your full swing while seeing your ballflight.  It also allows you to know the distances that you hit each club and to work on control those distances.

Of course, if your skillset is poor its probably not going to matter anyways and youd be better off spending your money on lessons instead.

So, what's your idea? Just get on with it.

The range helps you work out issues (once you know what you are doing wrong) and build repetition.  If you have a poor swing, poor alignment, poor address, poor balance, then spending time at the range is not going to do much of anything that is positive.  You need lessons to introduce positive elements to your game that you can then reinforce with range time.

Take a lesson or two and then go the range with a purpose, something to work on, rather than just to bang balls for an hour.

OK, tell me. We have all been to a driving range. When you go, what are you really trying to achieve? Do you have a defined goal on what you are setting out to do? Or are you just whacking balls to see who can get the furtherest? OR????

As I said in my VERY first post on the forum, my skillset is poor. I had a friend who was and is very good in the game. He tried to teach me, did not work. Maybe I am unteachable? unfocused? lost interest? can't grasp the concept as to why I am doing this?

If you could get better in your game, wouldn't it make it more worth while? What if there was a way to do that? Would you? Not trying to be a smart butt, but would you?

now days it cost an armand a leg for a large bucket of balls. So going to the range just to pound your club into the dirt seems a silly. Not saying there aren't people out there chopping up balls, but they are by no means the majority. Most hit balls with some sort of serious intent. If there is someone who made it to single digits without ever going to a practice range I'd love to hear about it.

Some people like to loosen up before a round. Some use it as exercise. Some just enjoy hitting balls. I've seen a few people take out range memberships and just pound bucket after bucket and never actually play a round. Sometimes it's used as something to do with the familiy. And some people actually use the range to improve their swing with a clear purpose, believe it or not.

You are right. For yourself, it's probably pointless. As others said, take a lesson. Get something to work on. Then hit the range. For others, there are many reasons why people hit balls.

OK, so there a few of you that feel that this whole thread is SPAM. I can understand, with a newbie coming in and presenting a new game to you. I see not only in the real world of golf, and here on this forum people are stand offish.

My name is Wayne. I live in NE Ohio. Personally, I happen to be invovled with a person that invented a game for the range. More then likely the do gooder that been deleting my posts with the link is thinking of doing it again. I bet they never looked at the website prior to removing the posts also. So do not go to the link do a search for it. The game is patented, and trademerked.

I only joined this board to present this game. Seeing that there is NO real way to guage ones self on the range. And from the looks of it no real smarts behind it either. Look at the responses to back what I have presented thus far.

I really thought thta this would be a place to present the roll out of the game. I must be wrong.

That's essentially an admission of spamming.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
