Well, I had the exact opposite experience...a Dad that didn't understand or have the slightest interest in sports.  My Dad was great in alot of ways, but fell far short in this one.  I think I would take this kid's father, at least he seems to care.  I don't agree with his methods, at all.  But, it's a starting point and they can work from there.

My dad played sports in high school and when he was growing up as a kid his dad would always berate him to the point where I have never met my biological grandfather, nor has my dad seen him in 25 years because of the bad relationship between them.My dad played baseball as a kid and when he got to high school after my grandma and my dad's dad divorced he stopped playing sports and lost interest. He has supported me in all my sports endeavours but he has told me many times about he never wants me to feel like I'm being pushed in sports.  I'm lucky my dad identified that he was being treated poorly and has never been harsh on me in any sport.

Or he we would have figured it out right away and punched you in the mouth. Most dads that act like that are typically the same people who get in fights with umpires, coaches and other parents.. Every town or school system has a few of those parents. So embarrassing for the kids.

Lol, good point. I have dealt with this type of parent before in my line of work and they are so self absorbed that they will take it as a compliment because they truly believe that they are doing the right thing for their kid. Their shortsideness makes them lose sight of the bigger picture until they have ruined a relationship with the very one they were trying to help succeed. Most kids respond better to constructive feedback that builds on positives not on criticism and sarcasm. This kid will need a psychologist, not for golf, but to reconcile his lost childhood.

That is horrible. That ******* is gonna drive his kid right out of the game. The kid is gonna hate the game in 2 years if he already doesn't.

I can guarentee i would have said something to the father, even though it would have almost defientely gotten him pissed off, it is defiently worth saying.

If you are ever with somebody like this, you need to approach them and let them know what they are doing is ridiclous and needs to stop.  I can guarentee 99% of the people who have played with these two have never said a word.  But if enough people say something, maybe he will realize after 50 people have told him and could lighten up a bit.

I'm sure he thinks he is doing the right thing, and pushing him, but he cleary is a moron.  This father had the kids life planned out for him before he was concieved.

I would have asked the father to take a shot and see how easy the game is

I just think its wrong to assume that the father is pushing the kid for his own personal gain.  Without knowing them on a personal level..how is it right to judge the dad?  Maybe its what the kid responds to?  Maybe the kid IS enjoying himself?  No one knows the whole story and its easy to say "well that dad is just a moron...He's so wrong for doing his kid like that!"

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

Domenic, you've pretty much tested the patience of everyone on here.    People have tried to help you with questions, and when you've acted with some maturity and respect you've been treated in kind.    Hell, I even tried to back you up earlier in this thread by actually digging out NCAA statistics which weren't far from what you contended, and offered a tip on how to properly quote stats to help bolster your argument and not leave you flopping in the wind.    But no, you come out swinging wildly again like Barney Fife thrown into a heavyweight boxing ring with no real clue about what he's doing.

Yes, we know you're only 13 but there have been members on TST younger than you that showed far more maturity.       If the Sand Trap is like a little community, you're kind of like the community's scraggly homeless man who keeps accosting all the residents on the sidewalk and demanding they give you a dollar and then berate them for not acquiescing to your demands.

But there's an easy solution for all who have tired of your overly juvenile act:  click on "Domenic" under his avatar, click on "Block Member" in the profile, and enjoy your threads free of arrogant obnoxious drivel.

That is a very touchy situation. This will most likely cause a verbal and sometimes physical altercation. I have been there. I once told a parent in a grocery store to stop back off a bit because he was calling his 12 year old kid stupid....and he came after me in the middle of the cereal aisle. Lucky for me, I am ninja and can defend myself. ha! Nobody tells a dad how to treat his children...not matter how wrong their actions might be. And the most hostile of those parents most likely have other issues like alcoholism or even a tiny johnson syndrome...and drunk people with tiny peckers LOVE to fight. Jokes aside, it is really tough to convey this to hostile parents. They are not just gonna agree with you. So be prepared for an altercation.

Not to get off track but try Winter Pines Golf Course sometime. Love that track , and $16 to walk 18 holes, or $21 to ride. Great folks." We now bring you back to your regular scheduled thread".

Not real long, but they make up for the lack of length (par 4s are all in the 300y-range) by having very small greens.

Yeah, i could only imagaine.  I am well aware that it will cause an altercation..but maybe after enough altercations,he may just lighten up a bit...who knows, but why not try and help the kid out.

I never said or thought he would agree with me. I guess thats just the way i am, i could never sit and watch that for 18 holes.  Maybe i speak out too much, but thats just me, and thats what i would do.  I wouldn't expect him to look at me and be like, o wow man, you are so right, my kid doesnt need this kind of shit.  No i bet he would say....shut the f*** up.  And i would probably say a few more things.

But i wouldn't avoid an argument with the guy because it could start a fight when it could possible help the kid out.

Getting into a fight with the father isn't going to help the kid out.  That'll just teach him more bad lessons/behaviors...

I'd be tempted to say something like "it was a pleasure to play with you, but I don't think your son could say the same," but I don't know if I actually would. It would remind one too much of the Seinfeld episode in the parking garage where George tells some random woman that she shouldn't insult her kid so much, then the kid starts insulting George.

Yeah, I am the exact same way. I am not one to just sit there and let stuff like that happen. I don't think I could last three holes without pulling the dad asside. Obviously not in front of the kid. Sometimes this gets me into trouble, but I can't stop doing it. I don't care who it is...man or woman...I couldn't even count how many times I have told some mother you is beating the hell out of her kid in public to relax....everyone has seen it. It never goes over well, but at least it makes her think about what she is doing. I am becoming a parent in August so this thread gets me really fired up. So I apologize for the rambling

The kid is 10. There is no way that father should be talking to him like that. Period.

I am 21 and would not take that from my father.  How would a 10 year old feel? Probably pretty shitty every time he tries to hit a shot and its not good enough his dad has something negative to say.  Do you see Butch Harmon, or Hank Haney doing this to their students when they dont do what they were taught....im gonna have to go ahead and say no.

Sure there are people who can take negative criticism well...but not a 10 year old for **** sakes

You may be right about the personal gain part but to say that the kid responds to public berating is kind of ridiculous. If the kid really enjoys the humiliation then he has a bigger problem than we could ever imagine. I could see the kid getting chewed out for stealing something, but for blading a chip it is beyond constructive.
