Hey everyone. It has been awhile since my last post. I am posting another thread to see what everyone opinions are on used irons. I am a 16 handicap, and need different irons. I am looking in the game improvement selection of clubs. I am also trying to keep the cost under $200. I am open to any brand and older models. Just want something that is forgiving, but not to the point its like having a shovel on the end of the shaft. Any opinions would be appreciated. THANKS!!

Check out globalgolf.com. I bought my irons from them a few years ago. They have some good deals on used clubs and are in good condition. I have some Mizuno MX-23's and love them.

Here are some links for recommendations:

Good evening LRM -

I know you said $200 dollars, but I am aware of an awesome set for under $300 if that helps.  Adams A7  (not A7OS).  Both my brothers have them and I have gamed them before.  They are really great clubs for the price.  If I wasn't concerned about having more workability with a club, I would have bought a set too (I play Mizuno MP-52s because I like to be able to shape shots a little).

The Adams A7 are a progressive set, which the pitching wedge through the 8 iron seem to give one more workability with scoring irons, and the 7 through 5 iron provide a bit more foregiveness.  Then they come with a 4 and 3 hybrid as well.

My younger brother bought them used for about $200 a few years back, and my older brother paid $280 last year for a brand new set (from Dick's I beleive).

Hope that helps and maybe that will give you another option.

Anything perimeter weighted with a rounded leading edge and minimal offset should fit the bill. Some people like offset, but when I was a beginner I found offset irons hard to aim. A sharp leading edge with low bounce is not recommended for most people and especially not recommended for people looking for forgiveness. Whatever makes impact feel better will make you swing through the ball with more conviction.

Take a look for Wilson Staff Ci9 irons.  I thoughtt they felt great when I was hitting them this past fall and they were around 200 this past christmas time.

Thank you every one for all the great opinions. I have been looking at a few different brands. I think I might have narrowed it down a bit. I have looked at the taylormade rac, cleveland ta5, wilson ci9 and after yesterday I am not considering callaway x18 (stuck green from 183 with my uncles x18 6 iron). Anyone know much about the clubs I have listed? thanks again.

Don't know what golf stores are available around you, but the Roger Dunn near me has a HUGE and reasonably priced used club section, and they'll haggle with you a little bit too.  I got my 3-PW Titleist 695 CBs for $200, haggled down from $250 when I mentioned the PGA club value guide numbers.  There's a tiny bit of rust on the scoring irons (gotta expect that on 5-6 year old forged clubs) but they hit the ball absolutely beautifully still.

Point is, it's best to hit clubs before buying, and you'll be able to get much better used than new clubs for ~$200, so I think it's best to find the biggest used club selection near you and go hit a bunch of different sets on the simulator.

Callaway Preowned has a well organized website divided by type of club (Driver, iron sets), and the types divided by model (FT-5, X22). Within a model, say X22, available sets are described in terms of makeup (4-PW), shaft and flex (DG S300), shaft length, degrees flat or upright, condition, and price.

Only thing is, you don't get to test hit them before you buy them. Callaway does have a straight-forward return policy... check the site for details.

Also, major golf shops like Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith carry used clubs, and often have the "recipe" of the used club or set (shaft info, flat or upright lie, etc.)

Focus, connect and follow through!

Just traded in my X-24 Hot's for some used Mizuno MP-53's with Project X 4.5 graphite shafts.

The only reason I traded the X-24's was they gave me a really good deal.  The Mizzies are shorter due to higher Lofts, but are deadly accurate.....and you can work it.

With all the new Razr stuff out, I am sure you can find some great deals on used Callaways.

You can work any iron left to right, but some irons tend to send the ball too high which drives me nuts.

I know its kind of this sites competitor and I like the discussion on here more but Golfwrx has a way more active FS/FT section and I scored some used irons on there that were in great condition for a good price.  I'd check it out.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
