I'll let y'all read it:
http://www.golf.com/golf/instruction...html?eref=golf

One thing I noticed that I pointed out to Jack is this: he used to hit down through the ball with his driver. Now his strike seems a lot more level.

I am not surprised as I think golf is all about the fundamentals. I feel that the main difference between a scratch golfer and a high handicapper is the fundamentals. I took lessons from a pro one time and his philosophy was

PGA - P osture, G rip and A lignment. When I was working within this philosophy and had him montoring my swing I won 3 times on a Amatuer Tour that year. My handicap started to drop as well. Unfortunately soon came a job change and the clubs went in the closet. Simply put everyone would benefit from following the PGA philosophy!!!

Wow, great article. I think you could learn a lot about not only Phil's swing but the golf swing in general.

Obviously the biggest concern would be Phil reverting back to his old ways once things don't go quite as well. He hasn't really experienced failure with this swing yet. During his previous 3 tournaments (before the Players) it seemed like he always started a round off well but had trouble closing it out. His swing appeared noticebly longer during the back 9 of those rounds. The Players was the first time (in three events) he seemed in control of it pretty much throughout (although he used a sick shortgame to save him on Friday).

i think its a whole lot about nothing....What happens when Phil loses very bad in the next few outings..Then what will they say about his swing..

I see what you're saying but the changes to make sense. What I'm curious to see is if he reverts back to his old form when things go bad or sticks with it. Obviously he can't win every tournament and there will be days he just doesn't have it.

Some of those changes are very subtle, of course what most people are hoping for is Phil is the new golden boy to challenge Tiger. So we have 2 big guns everyone's chasing, rather than one. Like cleve. said, it will be interesting to see if these changes stick and have longevity throughout his career. Aswell as gaining recognition for performance, i think a shorter, tighter swing will give him more recognition for having a nice golf swing. Rather than his old mighty swat.

He needed some help, his swing was starting to go all over the place. His backswing was almost looking "Dalyesque" with and you could tell it was killing his drive consistency.

I think everybody can have a tighter swing it would help most people. Look at Zach Johnson his swing is almost turn and turn with no wasted movement and he won the Masters.

I would love to see Phil get it in gear and challenge Tiger, I think needs a good rivalry right now.

Keep it on the short grass.

interesting in that it doesn't mention his new focus of keeping his right leg straighter at impact.

Great read!. Thanks.
I will add these thoughts to the 400 separate thoughts I already have as I tee it up. Is there something called muscle memory in a golf swing?

Great read!. Thanks.

I'm definitely in that camp. The mechanics have to be fluid so that no extra thought goes into the swing. Consistancy is key in any swing.

I personally have a swing trainer that I feel helps out a lot with muscle memory. I definitely hit the ball better after practicing with it.

He's only wanting to fix the driver swing not the overall game, don't forget the mental side he's also working on,285 in the fairway is better than 315 in the deep rough behind trees and bushes. The driver is the club that keeps taking his chances away. I don't think theres anyone better with a wedge in his hands and a open shot to the green.

    • Day 9, May 13.  After work, I went to my practice room for a dozen balls (two sessions of a half dozen each).  I may do more later, but I wanted to make sure I posted here too.  Same priority as yesterday, with the arms lifting.
    • Day 263 6-13 Setup alignment stick station for hands off body drill. Worked on wrist arch as well. Working on not hitting the stick 😀
    • Day 64 (13 May 26) - last practice of golf team for the school golf team….got to hit a few balls while working with the kids.
    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)
