Makes sense

not overly looking forward to tomorrows round, doubt ill get any range time before i go out due to other commitments

so annoying when i dont play for a while and lose my swing, broke 80 a few months ago and a load of low 80's as well,

as a check point if i get the shoulders working right on the backswing am i likely to chunk it a little until i get the hips moving forward? Ill do one piece at a time but dont want to give up on the first bit the first time i try

Not necessarily, no.

Your help is seriously appreciated, my last question before i go and work on it would be if i sort my shoulder angles and stop whiffing it but continue shanking it what should i do? If you cant answer that cus it depends on the swing ill call it a night and just go work on it haha

Just go work on it. Make the left shoulder go down more on the backswing. Head will stay more steady.

Yep. Thanks for posting those pics.

@carpediem4300 good drill to acquire the feels that work for you. Easy to do at home and/or on the range.

Well a mixed bag of a round, 98 on a tough ish course

main misses where fat shots (including a few driver fats) thins still, 1 shank and a few blocks

shoulders down definately helping but i found holding the club tighter in my right hand than my left hand helped quite a bit, dont understand that though

Yeah, well, all you've illustrated is that you need to practice things before you really put them into play. :-)

@iacas sorry to post a question without video,  i did set my phone up to record on the last few balls of my session but my damn iphone screwed it up again (dropping it two stories probably broke something ???)

whilst at the range and focusing on the shoulders down i wasnt thinning anything but a few came out fat, and a number of shanks

my buddy was watching me and he asked me where my weight was on feet at address, i replied (centred between heels and toes) he asked me to take my address position, he stood behind me and gave me a shove and i didnt move, he stood in front of me and repeated and i went flying.......he said (your weight is on your heels, thats why you lose balance coming down and shank, and when you dont you lose balance on your finish)

with that in mind i messed about with the weight distribution and him shoving me , we sure fot some funny looks from others!!! And the feel i got where i didnt move from either direction of shove was to be on my toes, but he said (wiggle your toes up and down) which i did fine, and he explained the feel is im on my toes but im closer to being centred or slightly on the balls,

so i went with it and my balance was fine, i only shanked the occasional shot, but i noticed i didnt have to concentrate as much on the "shoulders down" as it seemed to happen naturally

is it just a feel/thing for me or is this something that happens to others?

I doubt it. You probably still needed to do the shoulder down stuff.

Feel ain't real. Corroborate with video.

Yeah im well versed in the feel versus real, i've often felt im doing something that I'm not, hence the question to see if the feel translated into anything you know about, obviously video is the only way for you to answer that :)

@mvmac you mentioned about keeping the clubhead closed more on the backswing a few posts ago, i tried this down the range and whilst I still pulled some shots, generally contact was great, i didnt top/thin anything and this was the only concious thing i tried, what is this actually doing/promoting on the backswing to change the contact from thin to fine? Im just after understanding rather than analysis of my swing on this one

Does a few things

- Promotes the club loading "up" more on the backswing and shallowing on the downswing, (generally). You look like you go shallow on the backswing and have a lot of rolling of the face on the downswing. Harder move to time and harder to control the path of the sweetspot.
- Make a takeaway where you fan the face open and another where the face is closed, I'd bet the left shoulder is more "down" in the latter. So less changes in your distance to the ball the easier it will be to make solid contact.

Ah okay that makes sense thank you for clarifying, It was an impromptu range session as I drove past and had some time to kill but had left my phone at home so couldnt record it, the only thing i noticed apart from still having a slight pull and crisper contact was popping up some of my drives, will have to go back and see if the same happens whilst im recording it, thanks again, my biggest bug bear about golf is doing something but not understanding why/causes & effects etc,

    • They need to do something to speed  up play. They could randomly  time  players. One  idea would  be  if a group gets  out  of  position they are disqualified. If its a group of  3 and  its  1 player playing like  molasses i can imagine an exciting interaction, lol
    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
