My advice to you is be more careful with your clubs.

Wouldn't the same type of person that would turn a club in before later claiming it, also freely and openly admit they found it if the rightful owner confronted them about it?

Yes exactly, That's why I wouldn't hand it in in the first place. Give the previous owner an inch and they try to take a mile.

I would assume so.

This thread reminded me of a situation a few years ago - I was playing a course by myself & after finishing one hole I went into the nearby woods to do a little ball-hawking. Nobody was behind me - I had the place to myself. Well, I found a putter in the woods, and a left-handed Ping B-60 at that! (I'm left-handed)

Did I turn that club in? No. Why? Because obviously someone chucked it into the woods in frustration & didn't bother to go looking for it.

That's not even a 'lost' club. That's a rejected club. Mine.

Good point. And all the balls you found. I bet you didn't wonder who JJ was or the balls with 3 dots above the maker's name. I'd love one of those guys try to claim that it was their property. BTW don't be leaving your bag standing outside the 19th at my local club. You'll be able to bid for it on eBay but that's about it.

Well, that's ridiculous.  There is nothing "fair" about that.

Nevermind the fact that they still legally own said club.  That owner is a douche for trying to reclaim his property. /sarcasm

Fair is what fair does! Leave your bulging wallet somewhere unattended for five seconds within my reach and I'll have it. Your family may starve for a week but I'll make a few pavement princesses a little better off with my winnings.

I may be funny but also honest. Come on I can't be alone on this.

Walking off the 18th with a guy I'd just met that round, he hands me a ball that is mine -- very unique markings. He said he found it a week or two ago and, seeing my ball, knew it was mine and thought he'd return it. I thought that was very nice.

Regarding a found club, our cart GPS system has a way to report a found club and a ranger will come get it and find the rightful owner.

Regarding telling your wife you found your new putters and wedges, my buddy's wife thinks he's the luckiest guy in the world because he wins new clubs all the time. My wife and I practice don't-ask-don't-tell when it comes to her shoes and purses and my golf stuff. Good thing she thinks golf clubs cost about the same as a pair of shoes.

Are you sure you're pulling one over on her and not vice versa?  I bet she's on some shoe fashion forum saying the same thing!

I don't have a problem with shoes, purses or clubs. If she knew how much I spend on hookers, drugs and gambling, then I would be in trouble.

I was thinking the same thing.  Shoes and purses can very easily cost more than golf clubs, by a LOT.  She could win that one.

Bring back the chair. An eye for an eye.

I'll tell you what let drop another H bomb on a highly populated city.

I'm sure that's the etiquette you're looking for.

In California, you have commited  petty theft by taking those clubs. You are required to make reasonable efforts to return property that isn't yours.  That saying that golf exposes a mans true character comes through again.

Well, I'm proud to be British. We also have less fairies over here.

The Wikipedia page for Lost, Mislaid, and Abandoned property explains the common law implications of inadvertantly leaving your club on the course.  Essentially, it obligates the finder to turn the club over to the course with the idea being that the true owner will return for the club.  If the owner doesn't return for the club, the club may either be discarded or given to the finder.  This what any decent citizen should do without any understanding of the law or obligation under it.

So, yes, if you can positively ID the club you not only have the right to be upset, but you are still its legal owner.  Call the cops.  Let them create the scene.  Or just write it off as a lesson learned and take solace in the fact that you're a better person than the finder.

The common law references I made in the previous post derive from the common law of England.

Out of bounds.

I know you are trying to be witty and funny, but slurs like that are never good form. This is a nice place. Show some respect for the forum even in your humor.

We're a nation of shopkeepers and shoplifters! Most nations are full of shirt lifters these days.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
