25 years after shooting north of 250 and taking a 66 on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, Angelo Spagnolo is back.

See if you can predict his score the second time around before watching the video.

It's got to be a nice feeling to walk onto a tee box and realize that you can shoot a 65 on that one hole and still look competent.

How is it possible to be that bad and still go out and play golf? We  are talking something like a 130 yard shot (less from the drop zone). Does he only play par 3 courses? It seems like any course with a 50 yard forced carry will doom him.

I'm not entirely sure. We got some rules sharpies here that could give the correct answer. But couldn't he have just continued playing the ball he hit on the green & added 2 strokes to his score - instead of lying 11 he's lying 13? I mean, let's say he didn't realize what he did & went on and played 18 & finished the round. What then? What score does he post on 17? I mean, they don't make him go back to the hole...you have to post something.

I mean, it was almost demeaning to make him walk to the green, get his ball, and walk back.

I really feel for the guy. Obviously he loves the game & has a huge tolerance for his inadequacies. If it were me those clubs would have been chucked into that lake a long time ago. But x129 brings up a great point - 25 years later & he's still horrible? My God..how many balls has he lost in those 25 years...lol.

I used to wonder about what drove people to pursue an activity they suck at, and don't make progress?

Then I began to "play" the guitar and now I understand.(I really suck at it.)

Dis-enlightenment can't be put into words either.

It's today's Reality TV plus nerves on the tee. Where's the drama if he puts the first shot onto the island? More fun to watch him  be wet and talking to himself. Then they make up the "rules violation" that was rescinded.

I hope he got better, but I know people who love the game, been playing for decades,  and couldn't carry 130 yards anymore unless you gave them a wood and 3 tries..

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
