Plastic Tees?

Anyone play those plastic tees with the three-pronged ball holder?  I just bought a package of them.  A few concerns: Do they hinder ball flight? And does anyone else notice they aren't the easiest to pierce the ground with?

I play 'em all the time. I really don't notice a difference in flight and yeah they can be hard to put into the ground. I don't really think about it though if you move an inch to a different spot you can normally put it right in.

I think they are more durable overall.....but yes if you are playing on a "rock" tee box, it can be difficult if you aren't compressing them exactly straight down.

If the tee design in anyway influenced ball flight, the USGA would rule them illegal for play.  The USGA has not banned 3 prong tees, brush tees, ....... you get the idea.

I bought a package of them once.  Used for one round, and gave them away.  Hard to make the ball stay on them, unless it is perfectly straight.  Another golf gimmick of absolutely no use.

Material and top shape make about 0.00000000047% difference on ball flight. My only concern is if its going to leave paint or plastic on my Driver etc... I try to get most natural wood because of this, annoys me that they varnish most wood tees too..

I hate all forms of plastic tees.  Just my preference/prejudice.  For some reason (purely superstition/psychosomatic), I cannot hit it well when I use a plastic tee.  I know, I know.  I am a mental case when it comes to a plastic tee...

I tried plastic tees because I liked the idea of greater durability but they deform after just a couple of uses and basically become worthless. They are also more difficult to shove into the ground.

Had the same experience. It won't last. Waste of money.

I use them at the range all the time. The one I have currently I have used to hit 100+ drives or so and it's still going strong. I could never hit that many with a wood tee so it's nice to save some trees haha.

IIRC some courses do not allow plastic tees.

Trees grow back, oil does not.

I use them all the time, I can get 20+ rounds of golf on one tee, they rarely break.

Although they don't break my experience is they lose their stiffness quickly. Most aren't biodegradable also. I don't feel they are worth their cost premium.

Pros:

One bag last forever

less friction is supposed to make ball come off tee cleaner

Cons

Less friction means that if the tee is not level, the ball will not stay on easily

My post-med hands shake enough that I sometimes have a hard time getting the ball on the tee.

I've given up.

Plastic on the range. (---and never purchased -- just the abandoned ones I've found---)

Wood on course. (I like the bamboo tees myself.)

I have a box of the Epoch brand plastic tees.   Unless the ground is hard as a rock (which it is right now from the lack of rain), I use them.    I went 5 rounds with the same tee before I broke it.

When the ground is as hard as it is now, I just use the wooden ones.

I 2nd the Epoch tee.  It's also bio-degradable.

I've tried them all and Epoch is what I have decided to stick with.  I started with my first bag of 50 tees 4 years ago.  I just bought my 2nd bag a couple of months ago and that's mostly because I was giving them away to my playing partners.  I have been avergaging 60-75 rounds per year so each tee does last me quite a while.  They're not as stiff as the other plastic tees, so shoving them into hardened tee boxes can be difficult.  They generally do not break unless you're playing in cold weather, then it becomes very brittle.

I use Eco-tees, and LOVE them.  They last forever, I still have a stash of them from when my golf course used to supply them about five years ago.  They are also bio-degradable.

I do not like the three prong tees though, because once one prong breaks off, it's useless.
