Too busy for golf that is. It's been seven weeks since he hit that miraculous shot at The Masters.

Well he showed up for The Memorial this week.

I know he has been busy with a new baby, but to just take off all that time, and not even practice.

I don't remember Phil or Tiger taking such a long vacation after winning a major. (or having kids)

Is he done for the season? Will Olympic eat him up?

Should he retire now?

I think he's enjoying life. Golf doesn't have to be be all and end all. The guy must be on cloud 9 right now. Got a green jacket, made some good money, got a family and who knows what else he does in his spare time. What a sweet deal.

Yeah I am kinda disappointed that Bubba has basically taken most of the year off.  Yes I know he has a new baby and yes I realize that in the grand scheme of things that is more important than golf...

But as a fan I think one of the game's biggest draws should be out there.  He certainly as Masters Champ should have been at the Players I think.

I'm hoping he is getting bored of diaper duty and gets back on a regular schedule of playing golf.  A lot of pro golfers are very very dull, the tour needs characters like Bubba out there.

Yeah I think he had already committed to the Zurich and wanted to defend his title... but even though he finished 18th he didn't seem all that interested.

He certainly could have played the Players, it's only a short ride from his home and is the flagship event of the PGA tour.   I just get the impression he is not as interested in golf now that he's a dad.  Nothing wrong with that I guess, but most of the top players are fathers, it shouldn't be all or nothing.

I think you're reading too much into it.  The dude has to play 15 events on tour.  As long as he meets that commitment... Why bust his chops?

Why bust his chops?

Because we, the fans, want to see something exciting to watch.

I'm so sick of watching Zach the "I layed up on every par 5 to win the masters" Johnson. And Jason "Is he alive, somebody get a cattle prod on him" Dufner.

Haha true I love golf and appreciate their skill, but from a casual fan point of view there are probably fewer than 10  interesting personalities in the entire game.  Bubba's one of them.

Sure something like a Webb Simpson/David Toms final pairing in a tournament might be well deserved, but it will also put a lot of people to sleep.

Tiger took some serious time off after the 2008 US Open and Phil was off for a while after the 2009 US Open granted he didn't win. A lot of players take time off Bubba took time off to enjoy time with his new child not a big deal. Also when Phil was in the final pairing with Payne at Pinehurst Phil had a pager on him in case his wife went into labor because he was willing to walk off the course if she paged him.

Sounds like to me "the fans" take PGA Tour golf more seriously than the guys out there actually playing (by this I mean the players seem to understand there are more important things than golf).

The difference between being a father and have a new 6 week old kid is pretty huge.  It isn't abnormal to take 4-6 weeks off form your job after you kid is born. I fully expect to see him back for the Opens and the rest of the season.

To answer the original poster's questions: no, no, and no.

During his break from golf, he has been hanging out with my friends and me playing croquet in my backyard. I am confident that this training regimen will help him as the swing has forced him to keep both feet on the ground for at least half of the time.

    • I have played 210 courses.  Maybe more, depending how you count them.  Some destinations have more than one course for the same club house.  Courses that have 27 holes, I've counted as 1 course; But some  have distinct courses.  For example I recently went on a golf trip to Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama.  We played 3 VERY different  courses even though they shared a common clubhouse.
    • Day 8 - Setup and grip. Hit balls for a bit with a shorter swing.
    • I agree. This is one of those subjects that people are uncomfortable talking about. It's 2024 and it still feels stigmatized.
    • Chipped in for birdie with a 9I on #8 at Spooky Brook, but it's a repeat. I had four birdie opportunities inside of 12-15' today and I didn't make a single putt. I'm only missing #1 on the composite for the front 9, but I only have three holes done on the back 9.
    • Based on what you wrote in another topic, I think you have a pretty good grasp of what it takes to make mechanical changes. Just keep at it. The only thing I can add is to exaggerate the move more that you're trying to change. If your swing is currently A and you want it to be C, don't swing C at slow motion until you ingrain it because in all likelihood you're going to end up somewhere closer to B. Swing at like G in slow motion to end up at C at full speed. Does that make sense?
