I'm surprised nobody had anything to say about this.

Great interview.

Butch may not have the absolute best information, but he's a GREAT instructor because he NAILS the communication, the mindset, etc. His "tee-side" manner is great - he can be "a guy's guy" and he can be stern and he can be your friend and pump you up, too, all within five minutes as required.

Instructors have a lot to learn from Butch in that regard.

I checked it out when brocks first posted it, saw it was almost an hour long and decided I'd watch it another time.  I totally forgot about it until I saw your post.

It was a great interview, interesting to hear Harmon speak of Tiger, Phil, and others.  Butch is more confident and seemed to enjoy his time with Tiger more that Haney seemed to.   He's also more comfortable talking about Tiger and the time he spent coaching him than Haney, maybe because he didn't write a book about Tiger as Haney did.

Probably the most interesting thing was his comments on Bubba having the best eye hand coordination ever in golf, and Adam Scott having the best swing.  Definitely worth the hour of time.

That's the biggest thing I got out of the DVD review I did. He's really, really good at getting his point across (whether or not you agree with the point he's getting across). Most of his former and current students interviewed reiterated that point, including Tiger. Butch is very articulate and is so comfortable with his knowledge he can make it easily understood by non-techie golfers.  I agree Butch would have just asked Tiger to get him one or helped himself.  I looked for the DVD at Golfsmith but they were out of it, plenty of Haney DVD's there though....

I usually like Charlie's interviews, but would you guys mind giving a few pointers on what they cover on the interview?

Mostly Harmon's career, his dad, his coaching of Phil, Tiger, Scott, etc.  Alot of questions of course about Tiger, his game, his chances of beating Jack's record.  If you have an hour it's a great interview.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
