I purchased the new Ping i20 irons 4 - UW last month, just love them!

Has anyone tried the matching Sand and Lob Wedge?

Why did Ping include these wedges with the i20's?

I don't think they were available with the i15's

Unless they've changed things usually you can buy a 3/4-pw set and add the u/s into your order, allowing you to save a couple hundred $$$. Maybe you just got sold what the sales guy wanted to get you?

I have the i20's 4-lw and all the i20 wedges are great.

How do the i20 SW and LW compare with a Vokey or Cleveland when you are in the bunker and around the green?

I love mine.  The only thing you'll lose going with the matching wedges is that the specs on the wedges are set.  You can't get different bounce and loft combinations like you can with all the manufacturer's high end wedge offerings.

I agree, I have Cleveland RTG wedges, the g15s I had really limited shot choice.

I had cleveland cg12's 52* and 58* before I got my i20 wedges. It took some practice with them around the green to get a feel for which wedge i am going to be chipping with more but in the bunker I had no problems. I would say I have had more bunker saves with my new wedges over my cg12.

PING always makes U, S and L wedges for all their iron lines.  They'll play similar to other wedges, just a different look and the ball will probably go a little higher on full shots.

Is Ping no longer offering custom grinds on their wedges?

Seems like a lot of options then, if you take all of those grinds into account.

I would go to a big box store and try a lot of different wedges. I would never buiy a wedge (or really any club) without knowing if I like to hit it.

Very rarely will you see anyone match a whole 14 clubs to brand and model. Thats because they buy what feels good when struck.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

I got my i20's 4-SW, I bought them because I felt it was easier to have the same shafts and lie.  I love the gap and sand wedge.  I bought a Ping tour-s wedge in 58 degree just to get a little fancier.  There is no problem buying them as a set and I feel so much more confident standing over the same looking club on all my shots.  I also got the driver and 3 wood........next club to get kicked out of my bag is my Adams Super Hybrid and when I replace it with the i20 I will be Ping from putter to driver.

I just ordered my i20 LW. I will have the entire set after this one with matching serial #'s. I love these clubs and Ping does a great job with them. I first got 3-PW then later I ordered the UW (or Gap) to see if I'd like it. I did! Went back to the well and ordered the SW....WOW...love that one too. Now on to the LW which comes factory at 58* but I'm getting mine 1* weak and also getting the "back grind". Suppose to help more on open face shots which that's what most LW shots end up being anyway...OPEN.

I've never really thought I'd have a FULL matching set of clubs, but these things just fit me right and feel great. I almost feel like a dork for having an entire matching set but I just can't turn my nose up at the performance of the i20.

A little history:

i10 had P, U, S, L

i15 had P, U only

i20 has P, U, S, L

In many companies, the GI and Players irons stop at PW, and you get specialty wedges to fill out the set.

Not too many of these running around. Just got this one. I have the rest of the set too. Got this 1* weak which makes it a 59* with back grind and KBS Tour stiff shaft. +1/2 in. Matches the rest of my set. I really liked the U and S wedges, so I decided to give this one a go.

This is not true of Ping. They will do to the club what ever you like. Call their WRX department. Excellent customer service. I believe you can send yours back and they will set loft and lie angles  and do any grind to your liking.

Not a seller of Ping products.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
