I am not sure about everyone else but a lot of courses I play have a few tee box's lined up to either the right side or left side rough. I know a lot of people will pick a spot a few inches in front of their ball and focus on just that spot and ignore everythng else. For some reason when the Tee box is facing down the right side and I have to aim left I tend to hit a slice. I try to make sure my stance is not open and my shoulders are parallel with my target. Does anyone else have this problem?

anyone?

I am sorry my above post is a little confusing. I just want to know if anyone had tips for alignment on the tee box (when the tee box is not facing the fairway).

I always line up so my right shoulder (lefty golfer) is pointing towards my target.  I don't worry about how the tee box is lined up.  Aside from where I place the ball in my stance, I set up and address the ball the same way on all shots.

I wouldn't let the alignment of the tee box get to you. As long as you tee behind the line, just forget about the alignment of the markers. The problem could just be mental. I've had a fair share of muni courses align oddly, but I think they should know better than that. Could be that the groundskeepers know how to maintain the course, but don't really care about the game of golf.

Ryan

Thanks for the advice. I believe it's all mental because I get very odd tee shots when I have to aim left or right but when the fairway is straight ahead I seem to hit most fairways. It just feels odd when the fairway is not straight ahead. People say when you want to hit a fade put the ball on right side of market but for some odd reason I hit a better shot when I tee it on the left side....not sure why.

You might be using the tee box to align your backswing with and that's causing issues with your swing.  Extend your target line from your ball to go behind your ball and use that as your inital path so you don't get caught up in the alignment of the tee box.

I feel your pain with the misaligned tee box - it definitely gets into my head and I walk up to address the ball less confident than if the tee box is aligned right.  I like the idea of focusing on the direction of the front shoulder.  What I've normally done is to use a practice swing to see where the button of my pants is pointing to check my aim or use the club face itself to aim.  Neither really work when the tee box feels off.

I do the same thing. I'm surprised more people I play with don't.

When you use the alignment do you just set up the line on the top of the ball aiming towards the target, or do you tilt the line so it is on plane with your eyes and the center of the ball?

The former but I've tried both. It's like using an alignment stick on every tee box. To this day I've never seen another golfer do this but me. I've of course read of other members here doing it, and I've seen it once on TV ( I saw Brett Waldman do it at Q-School in 2010), but never in person.

I should really try this.  I don't like doing it on the greens, although I know most do, because of how precise you have to be while lining up and I'm afraid if I'm off by 1/4 of a degree I've missed the putt before I struck it.  (Assuming I read it right)

But on the tee, there is a little more room for error, so I think I'll give this a try.

Thanks for the tip!

Have lines on my ball. Line up ball with line aimed at target and dead on top of the ball.

Many tee boxes are designed to set you up toward trouble.

i used to really struggle with this. i could feel me shanking the ball before i even moved the club. i had to do like u said and pick a spot a few inches in front of me and tune everything else out. also used to struggle with uneven tee boxes too. over time i just got over it all

You get two club lengths behind the markers,  and you can stand outside the marker on the left  (if you're a righty)  so the position of the tee-box has never bothered me.   I'm looking at the fairway.... whether or not the ball ends up there is another story.

I don't let things like that influence my swing or mindset.. i just play my game.

Just concentrate on where you're aligned up with, see what shot you want to hit, and don't think about anything swing though.

Harder said than done, but just clear your mind and let that muscle memory do the work.

    • Starting over - missed posting yesterday and it had been less than 28 days since last off day….today was tempo drill day.  Worked on takeaway and moving smoothly into weight shift.
    • I know it is probably dependent on a lot of factors, but how windy does it have to be out before you need to start guessing on how much it would influence the break of your putt?  When I played at Bandon, it was like 25-30 mph winds. The caddies talked about the wind negating break. The only time I had it visually influence my putt was on hole 18 at Bandon Dunes. My missed my putt on the high side of a pretty severe breaking putt. The slope around the hole was in the 2-3 degree range. As the ball was about to come to a stop, the wind gusted and pushed the ball half a rotation into the cup.  The rest of the week I thought it had no influence at all. I was thinking, is it just over thinking to try to account for the wind?
    • Day 310 - 2025-08-06 Went downtown in the late afternoon and got nearly two hours of work in. Not a ton of breaks. Was blasting the TS at the end, from a HomePod and two TVs. 😄
    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
