I have been playing golf since I was 10 and one thing has always alluded me. I could never seem to get an eagle to drop. So today I was playing with some friends of mine at a local course Village greens. We came to a right dogleg par 5. Hit a good drive and put myself 208 from the hole uphill. I pulled a 5 wood and continued to hit a hard pull into the trees lining the left side of the fairway. My lie was 40 yards short of the flag, on pine needles, and was blocked by overhanging tree branches so a wedge was out of the question. So I pulled a 6 iron and put it back in my stance and punched it out to the elevated green. All my buddies were on the green so I was shocked when I saw the green with only 3 balls sitting on it, none were mine. So then was of my playing partners says to check the hole. I was like yea right, and sure enough there was my ball sitting in the bottom of the cup.

Gotta love golf, always something new to experiance evertime you play.

Eagle with no putts! Impressive Yeah I have only had a handful of eagles. I did have a hole out eagle like that on a par 4. Congrats!

No eagles for me. I've driven a par 4 in one shot several times, but I usually end up three or four putting. I've had two-putt birdies, though. I've also holed out 30 yards and in the sand, but that was to save par.

I've done that many times man, I've missed a flippin 6 footer for eagle before! Getting a chance like that gets inside your head like it or now.

Missing that 6 footer makes me mad to this day, perfect drive right down the center, then a perfect 5 wood from 210, the group in front congradulated me on the awesome shot, then I push the putt.

nice job guys. i've had a few eagles.... first was a blind uphill 3rd shot into a par 5 when i was 11 or 12 and that was obviously a great feeling. the other two were putts after hitting par 5s in two.... but i have one that was really funny and special.

a local course has a par 4 that's about 260-270.... dogleg right, with a road and some trees and bunkers on the right.... easy to get there distance wise, very hard direction tho, with all the hazards and OB right.

when i was 16 or 17 all my friends and i would try to go for that green, often getting on or getting close. pretty big hit for that age too. one day i was playing with a buddy who roped it out there near the green. i get up there thinking "easy, i'll knock it on." pretty overconfident and i hit an embarassing skulled driver that rolled along maybe 150 yards. the hole is slightly downhill so it rolled but it was an uuuugly shot, real amateur looking. and then i hit a beaaautiful wedge that landed perfectly short and left of the hole, took the slope and rolled in. my fav eagle so far.

Congrats!

I got my first (and only) eagle as a junior in high school having only played about 12-15 times. A 490 yard par 5 left me about 20 yards short of the green after 2 and I chipped it in. A total fluke as I was shooting about 115 a round back then. 12 years later and shooting low 90's/upper 80's I havn't had a realistic eagle oppurtunity that I can remember. Weird how that works.

I have had a lot of eagles on par 5's but only 2 on par 4's. Those are my favorite. I hit a gap wedge from about 120 yds. and it hit behind the hole and spun back about 15 feet into the hole. (That got me even with all my bets on the front nine) The second was recently when some friends of mine were playing a shorter course in Ms. I drove it to about 15 yards short of the green and hit a nice chip that took the slope and died in the hole.

I have only one eagle. When I first started playing golf I played this little executive course, there was about a 250 yard par 4. Drive landed short and to the right. Chipped in for eagle.

Still yet to get one on a regulation course.

I had my first eagle a couple of weeks ago. I drove a 310 yard par 4 and did not see where the ball ended up. then i walked up and saw it 2 feet from the hole. in my opinion that is the easiest eagle ever made.

That's awesome!

Im not a big hitter so the likelyhood of me ever driving a green is about zero

The first hole on my home course is a 490yd par 5 (short I know) and I hit the ball a pretty long way. Well, it was about 95 degrees outside with about a 7mph breeze behind my back the other day and I smoked a drive, and I mean SMOKED it. Had about 160 yds into, pulled out 7 iron and air mailed the green! First, I was shocked that I had just hit 7 over a par 5 on my second shot, secondly I was excited that I had a legitimate chance at getting up-an-down for birdie. Well, I chipped it up there with my 60*, caught the perfect slope, and watched in amazement as my ball stopped about 2 balls short of the cup! I almost wet myself!

That's the closest I've come to an eagle, and I've been playing for a loooong time. I've had a few putts at an eagle before, but they were all outside of 60feet so I don't really consider them legitimate opportunites

They come when least expected.

Once on a par 4, I completely missed my drive and was left with a bad lie 135 yards up hill to the green. Trying to get the ball back in position, I topped my 7 iron badly and watched the ball bound up the fairway onto the green and into the hole. Eagle 2.

Moral: Never curse a shot till it stops rolling.
Good thing: There is no place on the score card for comments or pictures.

    • Day 284 - 2025-07-11 Demonstrated and hit enough short game shots in a playing lesson that I can count it as 15 minutes of practice today. Easily.
    • So few of us would ever even come close to actually having to contemplate such a thing that I'm not sure any of us can really provide much insight here. Do what you feel is best. Or most rational. Or most interesting. All I can say is this: whatever you choose, commit to it and go with it. Don't half-ass it and waffle between your choice and the other options.
    • Played 18 holes at Fort Hays, Kansas Wednesday.  It was 95* and very windy. We had to play the back 9 twice because the course had Men's night tied up on the front 9. In the wind and heat, I shot a 56. 2nd round, I shot a 50. (The last 2 holes I played left handed.)  The wind died down a little and the last two holes (17 & 18) I shot using the left handed clubs.  17th hole is a par 5 and using a left handed driver and 2 fairway #3 woods, I was on in 3 strokes. I did 3 put for a 6.  The 18th hole is a par 3 over the water to the green. I sliced the shot (playing left handed) because I was using a 5 iron to compensate for the wind. (Normally would use a 7 or 8 iron as it is only 123 yards.) Landed short of the green and then chipped on an took a 4.   So, my 18 holes, in heat and winds, I shot 56 & 50 = 106, and played the last 2 holes left handed.  Now, my 2nd question. I can buy a left handed starter set for around $200 complete with bag and putter.   Or do I just switch the woods? I shoot a pretty good short game inside 100 yards.  I love hearing your encouragement and positive opinions.  I was diagnosed with Parkinson's around 10 years ago. It started in my right hand and has now spread to no feeling in my right leg below the knee. (I asked the Neruologist how could I walk if I had no feeling and he said, "from muscle memory." ) Then into my left leg and left hand. I am 90% disabled but continue to view exercise as my best friend.  From January 1 to July 11, I will have walked 724,795 steps, 421 miles, and 1,420 flights of stairs. I have to use a cane 1st thing in the morning and take a hot bath to loosen my leg muscles up enough to walk.  (Takes about 2 hours) Currently, I am doing physical theraphy 2 times a week but that may be ending soon.)  My weight has dropped from 175 pounds to 159 pounds. Because my body is constanntly moving. Consquently, myright side is affecting my golf swing.  Also, my friends see the outside jerky movements. However, Parkinson's is a neruological disease and the involuntary movements are minor compared to the lack of taste, no appetite, mental mood swings, night sweats, and foggy brained.  Well, enough of my problems. I fight this disease every way I can and am not a quitter.    So back to my original question. Do I totally change over to left handed golf or do I just change the Woods? Your thoughts please.   BTW, My Dad, L.G. Warner was Texas State Left Handed Golf Champion in the 50's. The reason I play right handed was becuse left handed clubs were difficult to find and not popular until sometime later.  Blessings,  Retired Old Man, Terry
    • My best shot was BS, I classify as good result. When you try to hit a punch out on the yellow line. Then you just steepen the club from A6.5 and pull hook it way left. It wraps around a tree, gets past the big tree before the green, and rolls up to about 10-FT from the pin.🤣 Then I leave the birdie putt 1/2" short in the heart. I deserved that. 🤣
    • Got off to probably one of my best starts ever last night.   Was -1 thru 5 and finished the front 9 with a +1 (37).   The back 9 wasn't very good but we were playing speed golf to try and beat the darkness.   Ended up with 37/44 for an 81.   Still a great score for me.    My last 5-6 rounds have all contributed to my handicap index so we trending in the right direction.
