Golfer. I can get the odd drive out past 300.

Autodoubter: No you can't.

Golfer. Here's a video of a decent shot, but I can hit it better, and have on many occasions. Just don't have every swing ever taken on HD video.

Autodoubter: Well that's not even 200 yards. You need to get a gps.

Golfer: I do have a GPS and that drives was measured at ____yards.

Autodoubter: But you're playing at 3000 feet on a baked fairway.

Golfer: I never said I wasn't - I said that in my my first post. 300 happens for a variety of reasons.

Autodoubter: maybe so, but that drive wouldn't be in the fairway. I'll take my 200 yard drive in the fairway.

Golfer: I'll take my 270+ yard drive in the first cut of rough, A drive that would have been close to 300 if it stayed on the fairway

Autodoubter: So I suppose now you're going to tell us you can't putt or stick a wedge.

Golfer: Of course my putting and wedge play could use improvement. I'm a relatively new player and even professionals can have bad days on the greens. Look it up.

Autodoubter: But you're swing as hard as you can with that driver.

Golfer: Of course I am. Don't you swing hard when you have a driver in your hand?

Autodoubter: Silence . . . . thinking "Maybe I should lay low for a week or so then come back and jump down the throat of the next newish player who claims to drive it farther than I do."

Um, I know most of us were busting this guys balls for starting a thread titled "Why is it unbelievable I can drive 300+".  Quite possibly the douchiest thread title ever.  It's a thread that cries out for the OP to be bashed.

I think the resident "autodoubters" know who they are. Maybe they honestly believe they hit the ball 220 in the fairway every time. Probably more like 180 in the rough.

I'm not an AUTODOUBTER. More of a realist. If that makes me a douche, so be it. But I agree with Mr3Wiggle, this is the douchiest title I have ever seen on these forums.

Your crazy, I just mention hitting a long ball or two in other threads and people ripped a new a-hole. They called me names, said I was a liar / bullshiter, and every time I tried to defend myself it would get old and long. The threads that this was happening where getting ruined by off topic nonsense, so I started this post. It makes perfect sense to me.

Now you want me Bashed? Thats not cool, I'm not sure why all the hostility towards me?

Sincerely, Jim

I wasn't one of the distance doubters. My question was and still is why does it matter if it required going to the range and swinging in a manor the OP admitted is not representative of how he usually swings. He says it's not important to him but he seems preoccupied with getting a big number on the monitor to validate his claim. Enough so that he's been to Dick's more than once and posted vids of him grunting and groaning and swinging as hard as he can. It seems like a step in the wrong direction for any golfer intent on improving their game, new or experienced. Maybe it's just me but I don't see any reason to practice something that isn't going to work out, by his own admission, a large percentage of the time. I get that he wanted some validation regarding this particular thread but it seems he's put more time into this than it was worth. In the end all he gets to say is I can swing that hard but it's not really what I would do in a real life golf situation the majority of the time.

You got me all wrong, I bet you I have really really good improvements in my game over the next year. I would say better then average, but I don't expect you to believe any score cards I post.

I wish you the best, honestly. I'm not one of your doubters I just think you've spent too much time with this particular issue.

I'm late to the party but I've read a few of the posts. I would hope some of the "hostility" is based in the knowledge that hitting a tee shot (whether it's 200, 250 or 300 yds) is such a small part of the game and this is something you may or may not already realize. It would appear you're overemphasizing it's importance and "rofl" at anyone who doesn't see it that way. Even if you've only been playing a very short amount of time, I'll give you the 300 yd drive. I won't give you a round for quite awhile with no 3 putts or chili-dips, getting up and down, short sided from a steep greenside bunker..or playing a knockdown draw or fade....ad infinitum. You'll see. No hostility from me however. Good Luck!

Gotta love the Internet. As always, people are so very quick to make comments that, in 'real life' might very well get their teeth knocked out if made to the wrong person.

While true, I should point out that "golf" is not the topic of this thread. The topic of this thread is "drive it 300+".

Keepin' it real.

There was a time when I thought I drove the ball 280yds regularly... Then I purchased golf shot and was quickly knocked down a few pegs. My "good" pokes carry around 240-250 and roll out to a monster 265-270! It sounds really cool when you tell people about your 300yd bombs but it is way more gratifying to humbly say "I probably average about 240" and know you aren't exaggerating. That being said, I tend to be the longest or close to the longest in most groups I play in. I do play with some fellas who can truly hit the 300+ drives and they are unmistakable, the sound, the flight and the fact that they disappear from sight until well after my second shot has been played. Bring on the Trackman though, I am intrigued!!

    • The hype with the LAB Putters is something ive kept a keen eye on but i havent actually tried one... yet!! I use a SeeMore PCB and have done for around 8 years now and it was a gamechanger for me. It was the first time i had been fitted for a putter and from then ive totally bought into the fact that the technology in the putters makes a massive difference The only issue i have with LAB was that i did quiz them on Instagram what the difference between my PCB and a LAB Putter would be as the PCB from what i can find is just as balanced as the LAB Putters, however LAB couldnt tell me what the difference was and just said they didnt beleive in SeeMore Technology, but i wanted to know 'Why'!!  So yeah, the tech im sure works and think if anyone hasnt gamed a putter like LAB or SeeMore where custom fitting is crucial, then you gotta give it a go!
    • Day 335 - More putting work, with the focus on setup and hitting the sweet spot.
    • Day 153: putted for a while using the 2 cups drill inside. Working on bead primarily. Contact was really good.
    • Day 8: 12/17/2024 Okay I took my new PPJ swing thought to the range today. I wasn't sure I was quite ready to do so, but I'm glad I did.  When I got it right it was good... really good. When I got it wrong it was a major fail. I hit lots of really ugly ones. But I didn't let that deter me. I stayed committed and focused on the PPJ and I avoided any temptation to go back to what I was doing before just so that I could "look" better at the range. I'm pretty excited about what I saw when I got it right.  I hit the 6 iron mostly (nearly all block work today). I also hit about 6 balls each with the PW, 8I, 5W and Driver. Those had varying degrees of success. I did crack one drive that let me feel and see what the changes will look like once I get fully trained.  Anyway, I'm going to go back to the mirror work for a couple of more days before bringing it back to the range. I do feel like if I can get this right my swing will improve a lot. So I think its worth the effort. I liked the way it looked on GEARs when I get it right, and I like the results I got at the range when I got it right. Now the goal is to work towards getting it right more often.
