Awesome! (Youtube description: Rory hitting a drive despite his playing partners advice that the players in front were in range... "dont worry")

Now try bouncing it off the ground and keeping it short of the ladies tees.

I was at a little par 3 course yesterday. We're waiting on a hole to let a group of two behind us play through, and the tee box we're waiting on is right by a pond. My buddy tried to skip the ball across the pond, to no avail, so I said I could skip it all the way across. I took a few practice swings and he said it wasn't looking good; just then I hit a perfect low 4iron that skipped at least 15 times all the way across the pond. In your face. That was the coolest trick shot I've ever pulled off.

Trick shot? Heck I do this when trying to hit a regular tee shot. LOL

Wow.  I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself after all?  Especially when the #2 player in the world does that!?

But for the life of me... I can't rid myself of the furor and sense of embarrassment that consumes me when I shank a wedge.  That feeling of the shank, has to be worse than topping a drive.  You know the feeling, right?  The one where the only way to rid yourself of further on course embarrassment, would be to snap your wedge over your knee - and go OJ Simpson on your own foot to declare yourself unfit for further play?

Yes, but since I don't hover around the heel as much as you, my embarrassing shot (which you can attest to) is usually to lay the sod over the ball and hit 40 yard 7-irons.  Equally frustrating.

Shanked wedges and 40 yard 7 irons are so devastating to your psyche. Any round where neither occur is a good round if you ask me.

We always goofed around and did this in high school. We'd set it up by talking about how everyone should watch us MASH this next ball, how it was going to fly so far, blah blah blah. Then we'd take this BIG HUGE swing, a massive windup... and try to barely touch the ball so it fell off the tee.

It's tougher to do than you'd think. :)

This is like a pool shark who purposely misses by fractions - The Color of Money.

I still remember the day on a 625+ par 5, every one of my foursome topped our drives. Long holes do that to you.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
