I think there was a good thread started by iacas about pros self rated  firm grip pressure of 3-4  that were much stronger than amateurs self rated  7-8  firm pressure.

Pros must have strong core and arms to support and sustain a swing speed of 115+ that most amateurs can not.

I think amateurs who are trying swinging faster to get more distance  cant support the swing speed and end up tightening their hands and get too wristy, especially with driver.

Also in that thread one comment was that pressures on the shaft were fairly constant, I think it you start changing grip pressure during the swing it may lead to inconsistency.

One of my problems is changing grip pressure with the driver, thought I have learned to tighten my armpit that seems to reduce the need for over tightening my hands and coordinate my body more into the drive than a hands and arms only swing.
