so i recieved a pair of checkered patterned knickers and a matching sweater as a gift from my grandfather i was thinking of trying them out. does anyone else have a ridiculous outfit they sometimes wear and or do poeple object to such extravagance?

Nothing crazy in my closet but I have been tempted to rock the knickers. Anyone that objects to people having fun is lame. Go for it.

I had a burnt orange shirt I pulled out of the closet that I thought I was pairing up with a pair of black pants. Wondered why the girlfriend of the guy I got paired up to golf with (she was just along for the ride) was giving me strange looks. Looked down and in the sunlight saw that the pants were purple. I certainly took acceptance to the look and we got a good chuckle after I explained what happened.

How did I end up with dark purple pants? Dark store. I'm pretty conservative with clothes.

That's funny because I remember way back when, my grandfather gave my dad a pair of plaid/checkered pants as a joke. Early 90s... Back when they were considered "Old Folks" gear.

I usually wear black pants but will rock my orange or green pants as well. I've done a green/yellow, orange/orange, and other combos before. No one ever cares. I just have to expect Rickie Fowler comments, which is fine with me.

Most recent Golf Digest has a fashion-makeover page for three male golfers. Idea is to brighten up the outfits, have better fitting shirts, and dump pleated trousers/shorts for a slimmer look. (Going to the gym also helps the slimmer look, but they didn't go there.) Also, we learn it's OK to wear a white belt if you have white slacks.

I'm wondering, if our outfit is too plain or too old-style, does the starter have fashion-police authority to give us a one-stroke style penalty on the first tee?

I usually don't play golf in brand new clothes unless I'm at some upscale private club with a mean dress code. Otherwise, it's slacks and shirt several months old that are probably starting to show some rub marks.

GD needed some filler until next time they tell us to dump all our golf clubs more than 18 months old.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I remember seeing Payne Stewart at a practice round during the 87' us open not wearing knickers and I didn't recognize him until he was much closer, some of the color schemes were a little wild but some looked good, I think the chicago bears look was a good one as was the patriots and this from a raiders fan.

I definitely want to get something along the lines of Daly, Poulter, but just for giggles, not everyday wear.

I do think it is funny though when I see a 50 - 60 year old guy wearing the bright orange flat brim cap.

I used to wear plus-fours (what most people in America would call, "knickers") and Tam O'Shanter caps as an homage to my then favorite golfer, Payne Stewart but nowdays I have a more conservative golf style: simple polos (usually with the logo of one of my fav sports teams on it) and either khaki, white or black dress pants.

I couldnt imagine wearing some of those Loudmouth pants on the golf course, its just not my style.

    • Woodley Lakes?  I was wondering why it's rated where it is, since it doesn't seem more difficult (if anything, easier) than Encino/Balboa.   It makes so much more sense now. Sounds like I should volunteer for my state association too.  I used to get some cool gear like that (well, not the cart) when I volunteered for check-in and will call at the L.A. Open, back when I lived there.
    • Day 7 (13 Aug 25) - 7:30 tee time for nine holes as a guest of an old friend…course fairways were  severely dew laden…made for some clubbing up and rethinking iron shots into the greens…played back a set of tees and it was fun rethinking club choices.

    • I think 95% is more accurate. The leader of our course rating program shot from the hip and said 90%, but I recently read elsewhere that it is more like 95%. So we spend 4 hours or more on a course with a team of 6 to 8 people to figure out the last few rating strokes as to whether they exist or not due to difficulty. I credit this site/forum for getting my interest up in volunteering for my state association. I am marshalling for the US Mid Am qualifier later this morning 15 min from my home. We get shirts, hats, 1/4 zips, a cart with our name on it, a radio, lunch and unlimited snacks all while watching some great golfers. 🙂
