As a fellow lefty, I am a fan of Mike Weir's, but he has gotten in to 28 events the past two seasons and only made 2 cuts earning  23 K.  His game has not fully recovered from his elbow injury, but he has been given his chances to show that it has.

JD, on the other hand, has made 10 of 14 this year earning almost 700 K the past two season...with 4 more events than Weir, he has made 14 more cuts and about 30x as much $ than Weir.  Weir might be a nicer guy than John, but he is not playing anywhere near the level that JD has the past two years.

OK so JD has not had status on the tour since 2006.  In that time he has got sponsor exemptions to play in 79 events between 2007 and 2011 in which he made the cut 27 times and more importantly Withdrew 12 times.  So basically you give him a special invite for 5 years and there is a 1 in 7 chance that he is going to snub the tournament that gave it to him by walking off half way through the week.   John has with the exception of his early couple of years and 2004 and 2005 never lived on the tour with his game.  Nobody (with the possible exception of David Duval) has been given more opportunities in the game to shoe that he has it.

Mike just lost his tour card last year so given your arguement above that should give him 4 more years of lackluster performance to turn it around like Johnny did this year and show that he still has it by sqweaking into the top 200 so it justifies giving this guy yet another shot.

I think your numbers are wrong.  How did you come up with the 79 sponsor exemptions for JD?  Even if your numbers are correct and Daly only made 27 or 79 cuts, Weir is 0 for 13 this season, 2 for his last 27 and 5 for his last 37.

JD and Mike Weir both continue to have limited status on the PGA Tour as past Champions (Category 32).  Daly is currently 6th in category 31 (re-reshuffle of categories 32-36) while Weir is not listed there because he hasn`t cashed a check this year.  I am pretty sure that both JD and Mike Weir have gotten some starts out of the Past Champions category.

I like Mike Weir and hope he can return to close to his old form, but his scoring average of 75.56 this year is 2.5+ shots higher than the guy who is ranked last in scoring

190 189 Stephen Gangluff 55 72.905

Last year, Weir was about a stroke lower at 74.52, but that still was 1.5+ shots higher than the worst ranked player

186 186 Rocco Mediate 53 72.98 3,852 15.677

53

Daly`s current scoring average is 71.15 and I don`t think he has ever been above 72.9 for a season.  ...1.5 to 4+ shots per round is huge on tour!

I think the answer is pretty simple.  JD keeps getting sponsor's exemptions because people like to watch him play, e.g. he draws viewers.

OK lets try this since 1999 John Daly has only been in the top 125 in the money list 3 years.  So that means that the other 10 he is on bended knee.  Mike Weir has been in the top 125 10 of those 13 years and only on the bended knee 3 years.  Which one has gone to the Well more often.

Who cares,

it is about drawing people to the gate.  Not many people, if any, are coming to see Mike Weir play.
