Who's your daddy??? ...

Just arrived today ... can't wait to break it in tomorrow!  Got a little bit of a surprise as it came with a Project X 6.0, rather than the Diamana Kaili I was expecting ... but no worries as I already have said Diamana on my RazrFit and can just swap them.  Now I have 2 different shafts in case I want to tinker. ;)

Review coming soon after I've had a chance to give it a whack a few times, and take it out to the course.

Just the angle of the pic and the how the head is positioned, here's a pic from an earlier post

Yeah, I was holding the club in one hand and the camera in the other, and not really paying attention to how I was holding it.  It is untouched out of the box at this point, so I am sure that its set to neutral, or whatever is standard.  You reminded me, though, that I need to check it once to be sure. :)

I'm supposed to be out at the range right now, but sadly, we have rain today.

Well, I got fitted at Callaway for this before Christmas and just received it yesterday because it was backordered ... so I'm not surprised that they're hard to find elsewhere.

I sometimes don't like how the 10.5* heads jettison out at the bottom.

I'm not sure what you mean here??

The pic I put up is of the 9.5 head, again from earlier pics in the thread

Yeah, I know the pics you made were 10.5*.  I was referring to the other...

By jettison, I meant the leading edge - bottom of the face.  Looking straight down, does the bottom stick-out prominently from the top-edge of the face where it meets the crown?

I just got mine today and will be at the very least hitting the range tomorrow if not playing... Looking forward to it. Look for the review on the main site in about a month or so.

Yeah, I've only used mine at the range so far.  I had to switch out the shaft to my kaili, but I really like it so far.  After I've played with it a few times, I'll review it on this thread as well as just a regular review.

Good luck!  Which loft and shaft did you get?

Mine is exactly the same as what you received. 10.5 Pro, Project X Velocity stiff. I'm going to see how this shaft plays as far as my review goes but I may pick up a different shaft to put in it eventually (I got a buddy with access to a lot of different shafts and a Trackman).

  • 2 weeks later...

Been using this just over a week now and so far I'm very impressed. Much better ball flight and dispersion compared to the RBZ Tour I was using.

Callaway was actually at my home course today doing a demo day so I talked to the guys a little bit and hit some of the other stuff including the new X Forged irons (very nice) as well as a X Hot 4 wood. The guy put one of the "Bomb Patches" on my head cover... I like it:

Thanks for pumping up the Cally brand. I have been sold on the woods since my BB 454 with the green NV. I then hit the Diablo Octane Tour with the PX 6.0 (.5" short) and picked up a solid 10 yards. Since then I have been putting that DOT against all comers and it has not been kicked out of the bag. Six months ago I ran it against the Tour Preferred version of the Razr (limited run) and the TP version just edged it out. It was not enough to pay retail, so I thought I would wait. I can't find one. I have my cousin who is Titleist staff trying to track one down. Yesterday, I specifically hit the Razr Extreme with the BowTie (and a few others) against my DOT and the fitter stopped and told me not to lose the DOT. I did not hit the XHot. Did anyone see a big difference in the Extreme and the XHot?

I also have had success with the DOT Tour 15*. Another great stick that fits me well that puts it out there. Before that I was stroking the X something 15* with a Fuji TourPlatform. Anyway, it's nice to see some Cally hype. The brand has been hot for a while and was a well kept secret with the DOTs. The DOTs are being blown out at 149 at most places so if any of you guys are on a budget you should at least give it try. The faces are hot and the PX in the Tour Version is a decent shaft.

    • I don't remember a ton of favorite putts (maybe I need to make more) but here's two that I do remember.  18th at Kyber Run  We had been playing a 4v4 Scramble for $25 a guy and it had been absolutely pouring the entire day. Talking like 4+ hours of non-stop rain, but we had this money match planned for a while and the course was happy to take our greens fees. The foursome we were playing against was the group in front of us and they just finished and were watching us come up 18 from under a pavilion out of the rain. We thought we had a 1 stroke lead going into 18, but they had birdied 17 to tie things up. They parred 18. So they knew we were tied as we played 18. We had about a 35 footer straight up the hill for birdie and by this point water is starting to pool up on the green. I'm the last person to putt in the group, step up and hit it about as twice as hard as I normally would from that distance, water is spraying up behind the ball as it's rolling, ended up being perfect speed and drops in for a birdie, giving us the win and not realizing why they were so shocked about the putt until we realized that it was for the win.   12th at Talamore We had been playing 2v2 best ball and our opponents hadn't been playing great as we had a 3up lead through 8 mainly due to their mistakes rather than our great play. I went on a bit of a heater, holing a 10 footer on 9 for par to win the hole, birdied 10 after hitting a wedge to 12 feet and pouring that in, birdied the par 5 11th after hitting my 3rd shot to 4 feet to put us 6up with 7 to go. Par 4 12th, pin is front left and I am on the green back right after hitting a great punch slice recovery shot from the right trees. I had 50 feet left for birdie and was just trying to lag it close, it ended up going in the hole and I walked it in for my 3rd straight birdie and ended the match right there as my two opponents just shook their heads and my teammate was cracking up with laughter.
    • Why you young whipper-snapper you!😋 To OP, I have no routine, I eye-ball up to half wedge (40-60 yards) most days. Only time I am somewhat deliberate in checking is distances to clear hazards.
    • Well, I just got back from 7 days straight of golf in Las Vegas.  I've played all three courses at Paiute Golf Resort. Normally I say that the Wolf course is my favorite, but I do really like Snow Mountain as well. I'll say this, all three courses are really great there. You can't go wrong by playing Paiute.  Then I played a tournament at Bear's Best. Been playing that tournament for like 15-16 years now. We've only been at Bear's Best for the last 10, before that we were at Prime Valley. It was a great tournament. For some reason my head fell off during my Saturday round to take me totally out of contention. I also hit a piss-poor tee shot on the 4th hole of the horserace to take my partner and I out of that.  I hit some really great shots during the tournament. But you don't win tournaments by hitting great shots. You win tournaments by making low scores. Which I simply wasn't able to do.  It was great, and now only 357 more days until next year's tournament.
    • One that comes to mind ... #2 Jasper Hills GC, par 3 Naturally this one was to save par.  Hit two awful shots to find myself on the very front of this fairly large size green. The hole was in the back, left corner with a decent amount of right to left break. I'd only be guessing what the actual distance was, but it was easily over 50 feet. There was so much bend on the back end of the putt that it just seemed really unlikely until the last few seconds when it broke back to the hole, hit the stick dead center and dropped.
