Should be fun. I sort of give him the benefit of the doubt because really after a dead grandmother, do you really need to add in a dead GF for the story?

I was thinking the same. But it still doesn't make sense on Te'o's(?) part. I didn't see all the media coverage regarding his supposed dead girlfriend, but I know College Gameday has a lot of fillers Saturday mornings and I think this story was one of them and didn't he do a few interviews about this? Hard to believe that he fell victim to a hoax.

Wow. RT @TheBigLead: Confirmed from 2 sources: ESPN has known about Manti Te'o story for 10 days.

hmmmm. wonder why ESPN didn't feel the need to lead with this "story" on January 6, 2013?

I read the Deadspin story... Sounds like a Catfish hoax - that went awry... If this girl doesn't exist... Then who was he talking to on the phone?  That is what I want to know.  From his response, he is saying he was a victim... But again, if she wasn't real - who the heck was he talking to on the phone?
Even more strange is this from the Deadspin article is this: "The South Bend Tribune wrote an article describing the young couple's fairytale meeting—she, a Stanford student; he, a Notre Dame star—after a football game outside Palo Alto." And this: "'Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there.'" Forget how they talked on the phone, how did they meet? I assume if he really wasn't in the loop then whoever was behind it found ... someone willing to meet him. And if they were close enough for him to call her his girlfriend, they must have gotten pretty close. And where's that girl today?

Yeah I agree.  I read that too... But then I read his response to all this... And he said he never met 'her'.  And he only talked to her (via online social media - and I'm assuming the phone calls he said he would fall asleep talking to her and 8hrs later the phone was there and still connected... Hmmmph So I'm confused.

Yea. This thing is so weird. That's why i said I hope he's a victim. That's really the best case scenario for him. The only other option would be that he was in on this for some reason. More publicity? That couldn't be worth the risk, could it?

It would have to be one really elaborate hoax for him to have not known.  Then again, you take devout mormon from hawaii, who by all accounts is a real wholesome sort of guy, stick him in south bend...maybe he is just naive?  Maybe these guys call start the hoax, and once it works they get some girl to play the part.  But nightly phone calls?  That would take a lot of dedication...

So either he lied when he told the South Bend Tribune that he had met her, or they got bad information from somewhere else. Or ... I don't know. Such a weird story. And he has a vey loose definition of the word "girlfriend."
my guess? this guy
Seems like that was the conclusion the Deadspin writers came to. That it was either a hoax by that guy, or that he and Te'o were doing it deliberately for the PR. I like to believe that the entire thing was concocted by Bill Belichick in the hopes that Te'o could drop to the end of the first round. ;-)
He's clearly not the victim here. He has claimed to not only talk to her on the phone every night, but he also claimed to have taken trips to Hawaii to visit her multiple times. The kid was straight up making this nonsense up. And now it's came back to bite him on the ass.

well its possible that he exaggerated his live contact instead of telling the world that he spends all night talking to her in chat rooms. or that he talked about going to see her in the future and reporters weren't clear in their writing. and let's remember that most of deadspins info comes from tweets. not enough to label a guy that appears to be genuinely good hearted, a liar, imo.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
