Anyone know why golfsmith, golf galaxy, etc. doesn't offer this club? Did nike stop making the tour blades? or at least the 1 and 2 irons?

Very few players carry a 2-Iron or a 1-Iron anymore. It's widely believed that most who do, shouldn't. Tiger doesn't even carry his 2-Iron most of the time anymore. Part of this could be a function of age; if he were able to stay, say, 25 forever, perhaps he would still carry it.

I suspect Nike still makes the clubs. Your local golf store might be able to order one for you if you really want it... I maintain that 1-Irons should still be sold and not count towards the 14-club limit, as long as you don't hit it during the round. You know, in case of a lightning storm, gotta have the right safety equipment.

He has been known to replace it with a 5-Wood from time to time.

No he doesn't. Most tournaments he plays in he replaces it with a 5 wood. He brought it back for the US open, and also last year's British Open

Tiger does not carry his 2-iron every round. He rarely carries it - about 20% of the time, at most. He's switched to a 5-wood for high, soft shots into par fives, sometimes off the tee, etc. He can hit a stinger 3W, too.

So no, he doesn't.

Hmm thanks, I know he had it at the AT & T. When I first started playing ~6months ago I used long irons off the tee because my driver was unpredictable. Yesterday played 9 and hit 3 iron off of almost every tee. Consistently 200+ yards with no chance of being in the thick stuff, shot 5 over with a triple (lost ball because I hit driver once) for 9 holes, pretty happy with that. Only time I ever have a tough time hitting long irons is on a downslope in the rough, would a hybrid really help my chances of making good contact more. I haven't found a hybrid that is to my liking. Too many push hooks, or as the case with the 585H high high shots.

I could have swore he did.

Great round, especially being new at golf. What course?

I love to hate this damn game.

I could have swore he did.

Yep - he used the 2-iron on all four days at the USPGA last month.

At the last tournament, he carried a 2 iron.

If you click on each of the last tournaments, he's been carrying a 2 iron for a while.

He carried it during the 3 Fed-Ex Cup tournamewnts he played...but hardly used it - always saw him with either driver or 3-wood...probably due to fairways being a lot softer than in USPGA.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
