These comparisons are to a scratch player. I am not sure how much this really helps me but I guess it confirms what I have been thinking.150 and under is the most positive thing I have going on compared to a scratch golfer. 150+ is decent, but I know that I can be better if I can improve my fairway wood play which was pretty non-existent this season. I'm losing the most strokes in driving, and about the same amount to short game and putting combined. I believe that my biggest struggle is a centered and balanced driver swing. I tend to overswing, get off balance, and miss badly in both directions a lot. I had some good rounds with the driver and many very bad rounds this year. I also used the 3 iron a lot on holes I wasn't comfortable taking the driver out on. My short game isn't good either and my putting has been brutal this year. I need to practice those things a bit more throughout the season. I don't practice these two things much at all and need to devote a bit of time to it moving forward.

I am still working on covering the ball at impact, however to make it easier and better, my instructor has my trying to remove some extension and chest to the sky look that I tent to get before I transition down.  I went to the range this afternoon and felt like I was doing this move well and feeling huge differences.  I have to laugh because when I look at the video I was maybe fractionally better.  I've tried this move before and struggled with it, but I will stick with working on it this time and eventually I will improve the picture.

Improving a bit but I know from practice swings I can do better with getting more chest down. Part of that is trying to feel the left knees staying more over the toes in that backswing is what I have found.

It's not just about the chest staying down, because in doing that you can end up with the hips staying a bit too far forward.

Well it's a good thing I'm coming for a visit next year then. 😊 I hope to not be working on new things all year again like I did this season. Just find my move, refine it and play.

Don't really want to start a new thread for this, so I will just post here.

Sedge Valley, it's a gem.

La Belle., I joined as a member this year. Before you jump on me for why since I have not been the biggest fan of it in the past, the course makes me a better golfer. It is also nice to look at in general and quiet. Member reserved tee time slots are nice as well.

Sedge Valley looks amazing. Befitting the company of it's tad older siblings next door. The clawed out bunkers though.. Some of them greens holes have like six of these puppies surrounding! Hit the green or be damned. Even some of the fairways seem to funnel into some of them. I guess it helps to have wide fairways. Would love to battle through it someday. In my bucket list now.

Yeah, LLB is still a pill in my book. The 4th hole still my favorite. Visually at least. The video doesn't do enough justice as to how perilous it is from the tee box. Lost my bearings on this bad boy and never recovered until we hit the clubhouse restaurant after the round. Good on you for taking it on. 💪

I mean, if you weight the pros and cons, I can see it. I am not a fan of memberships in general, because I like to play different golf courses, and I would feel inclined to validate the cost of the membership by playing at one course.

When are we all going back up to Sand Valley 😛 Kind-of joking 😉

As far as memberships go in this area, it is very reasonable for a course of this caliber(in the sense in which it is taken care of and visually I mean). It forces my concentration the entire round, and makes most other courses I play seem fairly easy.

It really isn't crazy target oriented from the tips as well but definitely feels that way at first. I hate playing from the blue tees because it takes driver mostly out of my hand. White tees as I have played with my Dad are very fun because I can go for quite a few greens.

Spoiler

Here is how I play La Belle from the tips.

1. Driver

2. Driver

3. Driver

4. Par 3

5. 220-240 shot. Driver if you want to go down 18 which is a great angle or driver out to the right which is a bad angle. I usually play a 7 wood out there.

6. Driver 290 to the bunker.

7. Driver if you can hit a 30 yard wide area, that's not me so I go 4 wood or 7 depending on the wind.

8. Par 3

9. 3 iron or 7w for me but most try to get close to the green with a driver.

10. Driver

11. Par 3

12. Driver or 4 wood depends on the wind, have to club down with a tailwind.

13. Driver

14. Many people club down but Driver is the play. Your drop likely only is 50y from the green and some room to miss left.

15. Driver to carry center left bunkers but it brings fescue long and right in play where I have lost a couple balls with that miss, so I take a 4w or 7w short of the bunkers which leaves about 140 in.

16. Driver if you want to challenge the left bunker and are hitting a draw. I usually take a 4w over the right two bunkers. Leaves only 230 in on the par 5. Point is you have interesting options actually.

17. Par 3

18. Driver

Funny you mention that about SV, I have been considering reaching out to others here about that.  I have to play The Lido though so that means a stay on property is required.  I've mentioned it to a couple people, but I am game to get serious about that at some point.

Yeah Sedge is so much fun. I shot a 77(Par 68) out there, and then shot a 77(par 73) the next day at Mammoth. I should have shot a 75 at Mammoth but somehow took a double on 17 after my drive left me 100 yards from the green. Sedge is a decent challenge. Mammoth is too easy, but still pretty. My buddy is a 25 handicap roughly so that is why we played there.

Have not filmed my iron swing in years so here is a current one. Was getting pretty shut with the face and hanging back as is my tendency, so I have just been working on that.  Pretty dang happy overall with this swing but it is clearly not without flaws either.

    • Day 126: another busy day, so just did some mirror work. Checking set up and backswing and working on a few downswing feels.
    • Day 310 - Working on my follow-through. Higher chest, belt towards the target. Small swings at first, building to a fuller swing (still not thrilled with my short backswing).
    • Day 201 (19 Nov 24) - Walked the back nine at Minnesott today, played the “white” tees with the persimmon woods and bladed irons.  It’s a challenge I really like as the clubs are shorter in overall distances.  It really forces me focus on the value of the approach game.     Somehow yesterday’s post did not load / so it’s above.  Today (Day 202) I did some backyard short yardage work - 7i dink  and rolls, 9i chips and 50deg pitches - working to get it in before the rain started around noon.
    • Day 51 - 2024-11-20 Played nine holes of Sanctuary Moon with a 6I while pausing in the backswing and otherwise just practicing. If you're into Star Wars, or don't actively hate it… this is worth checking out.
