broken golf spike. HOW TO REMOVE?

kept trying to remove it and I ended up breaking the spike. How can I remove this?

Very carefully!!!  This happened to me about a month ago.  I used my leatherman knife and just cut it out without cutting into the shreds.  I'm sure there are much better ways of doing it but that worked for and I didn't damage the shoe.

Plastic spike?  How is it "broken"?  I usually remove mine with a pliers.....spike tools just don't work very well on the current crop of spikes these days.

If you can't get a grip on it, drill it out with a drill bit just a little smaller in diameter than the male portion of the spike.  Take care not to go too deep.....you can do that by putting a bit of tape on the bit at the max depth of the spike.  Once you've drilled, you should be able to pull it out with a needle-nosed pliers.

Or you could score it with an exacto knife and then jam a flathead screwdriver in the score line.

My Two Cents: Find a place where the shoe can sit upside down undisturbed for a day or two.

(I have a very inquisitive cat , who doesn't tolerate even the smallest change around the house well!)

Place A SMALL drop of oil, like "Three in One" on the threads and let it soak in. A little will go a long way. Then find something you can back out the slug with.

When I buy my replacement spikes I just bring my shoes in with me and the guy in the golf store replaces them for me gratis.

I don't have a solution for getting the spike out once it is broken, but a suggestion for how to prevent it in the future.

before attempting to change the spikes, place your shoes in a shallow pan and add enough warm water to just cover the soles. Let the shoes soak for about 10-15 minutes, which loosens up all the crud. The spikes should then come out easily. After removing the spikes, I then thoroughly clean the soles with warm water and allow them to dry. Before inserting the new spikes, I spray a small amount of non stick cooking spray (PAM) on the studs of the new spikes and replace them in my shoes. So far, this "system" has worked for me, and I haven't had any further problems with stuck spikes.

I change my spikes at least two times per year, and works with "Q loc" and "TriLoc" fastening systems.

My spike removal tool thing came with a bit that looks like one of those older Black Widow spikes, but with smaller tines. It's made of metal, so you put its tines between the ones on the spike and go counterclockwise using a power drill. I kind of like the sound of Ernest Jones' method better though.
