I just recently picked up some Mizuno MP-33's off craigslist last week for $275. They are in good condition and I love the feel of them, the previous owner had new golf pride grips put on them and they have very little wear. One thing I noticed though, which I thought was odd, is that two of the grips (8 iron and 7 iron) have the grips facing backwards. So the golf pride logo is facing me instead of out...Does anyone know the reason for this?

Probably someone changed the grips for just those two clubs, or someone had a set with missing clubs and found two used clubs to make it a full set, so they can charge you for a full set.

Personally i put on my own grips and put the golf pride logo away from me, so i don't look at it. It messes with my alignment.

I regrip my clubs myself and I don't bother lining up properly, I just want to get it done. Sometimes mine are even crooked. I never look at my grip, just the clubface.

hmm...i know that the clubs werent replaced because they have the matching serial numbers stamped into them. I guess maybe it was just some kind of personal preference. I just thought it was odd that 6 were straight and facing the club face and 2 were straight facing away from the club face. I guess I will never know.

Well in that case, here's my guess: Since 7 and 8 iron are in the middle of the set, and quite likely the clubs that were practiced with the most, my bet is that the previous owner regripped only those two at some point because they were much more worn than the rest.  They probably either put the logos down as an experiment, or the guy at the shop did them that way because nobody said otherwise.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it since you have the matching serial numbers and know that you have a full matching set.

My guess is the original owner regripped 2 clubs and wanted them logo down. He was probably going to regrip the remainder of the clubs in the same way ... but he sold them.

It's not a huge deal...I just found it odd once I got out and hit them. I still love that new feel of the ball coming off the club after a solid hit!

If the "turned around" grips cause problems with alignment, find a golf shop that can salvage grips, removing them with an air gun. The shop could blow off the grips and reinstall them with guides facing forward.

Focus, connect and follow through!
