Crossfield is a legend, but then I would say that coming from the UK

Some people are posting that he is bias, but I actually think he attempts to be as unbias as he can. He's also pretty amusing, just watch the video about "IN THE BAG!" and you'll see he's a bit of a joker

  • 3 weeks later...
As a beginning golfer I really like his videos. He is more entertaining than anyone else I've seen on YT, and his swing messages are easy to understand. I actually like his swing... smooth.

I've been subscribed to his youtube channel for several months now and I was a pretty big fan of his videos until recently.  I don't know if I simply didn't notice it before or if it's a new thing he's doing but he seems to have a really subtle pompous douche streak that makes watching him annoying.  Maybe I'm just imagining it, or maybe the youtube popularity has gone to his head.  It seemed like the last 2 or 3 clips I've watched of his were short and not particularly helpful.

He's a fun guy. as far as his reviews go. I never heard him about a club he didn't like.

All the clubs he hits are good. So i don't like that part.

It's obvious he's a mizuno fan. Well so am i and i like him because off that.

I never looked at his teaching video's because i work with my pro on that.

We have a rather good one. and he almost was a tour player.

Represented the UK in his early career playing with Lee Westwood.

Still got some course records holding in the UK and Netherlands.

He settled because he got married and kids and didn't want to be away

all the time.

I still think he could play at tour level tho. Last time i played with him was in our weekly mens

competition, he had a sore back and it was really hurting him. He sliced the shit out off all his shots,

but he still managed to play -3. If he wasn't trying a normal putter ( normally a long putter ) he would have played

even better. He hit 16 greens in regulation. Didn't make a single bogey.

I've watched his videos. I know its time to go cook a well done steak each time he says, "lets give her a rip, shall we," because he'll back off the ball and babble for at least five minutes. His information seems decent enough - reviews honest and non-partial.

I think this is a byproduct of the fact everything he tests is higher end, so therefore the clubs ARE all good. What he does is make observations about the differences in feel/sound/flight/ease of use and make recommendations based on that while relating to his own preferences "I rather like the shape of this club head" or "this is more of a players club" and "it really gets the ball up in the air easily for those that have trouble with that".

I have to laugh everytime he steps up to hit the ball the first time because you know he's going to stop, comment on the head of the club, walk towards the camera and hold it up. Then He goes back to the ball sets up, stops looks at the club makes another comment and sets up again. It's like he doesn't know what he's going to say before he starts the camera rolling. "Let's give this a wallop, shall we?"

Hahahaha I know. Total stream of consciousness.

I subscribed to his channel. His tips are pretty good. He is reviewing the clubs I am contemplating getting based on some of Shorty's suggestions for a gaming club.

That review is my favourite by far, cracks me up every time.

What is a "tosser" and a "prat"?

Tosser= wanker, a bit full of himself, his own biggest fan, Prat= annoying, idiot, dickhead ^British terms^ I'll have to check this guy out for myself! But will leave an opinion, lihu is right though, I wouldn't want him in front of me from what I've read!

Plus the camera setup on every hole would probably drive you to do something rash and regrettable?:-D Btw, thanks for the translations. :-)

I visited the Uk for a few months and had a few lessons with this Pro Matthew, He made a massive improvement to my game and I also reviews clubs not as many as MC but still very interesting and unbiased. I have posted his 2013 Iron shootout video which is funny and interesting!

ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84wL3YgyNpw

He has 2 channels now one for brief quick tips to answer viewers questions and a longer weekly fix which addresses several issues.

He puts things over quickly and usually has a few different ways of trying to fix something - we don't all learn the same thing the same way.

He also likes to have a laugh and I think some of people commenting take him the wrong way, he did post a video of himself shooting a nine on a par 5. How many other coaches would do that? :-)

If you know a lot about golf then a lot of his stuff you will know, but its not aimed at you - its aimed at folk who can't get the ball round a course or suddenly struggle and can't fix it.

I just used one of his club reviews today in a store with my smart phone. He's great at reviewing equipment, and the comments he makes about what type of golfer would make best use of the equipment are extremely helpful. They are amazingly true as well. I tested his premise on the spot at the store.

Think so?  I watched probably 6 or 8 of his equipment reviews and he never really said anything bad about any of them which made me suspicious.  I'm guessing he works at the course there and they sell the gear so he has to be somewhat careful about badmouthing clubs.  He also seemed arrogant at times when testing a club that he thought was made for amateurs, making it quite clear that he personally would never use the club because it is so far below him while a higher handicap player would be a good fit.  He could be right, I dunno, it just seemed douchey.

    • Patrick Cantlay's strokes gained from 2024: I wonder if he takes more time on approach shots given that was the worst part of his game last season. And then here are his 2023 stats: Much better ball striking season. I wonder if there are any differences in his times between these two seasons. I tend to think he's just slow in general, but it'd be interesting to see his time differences.
    • Not sure, I think players have their own pace. Speith was always slow, regardless if he was in contention or not. Well, more so when he was in contention. It might be a push there on that question.
    • Without knowing the study at all, this could be more of a reflection of who is tournament ready and who isn't. If you have a quick trigger, it could mean your swing is working really well. Fidgeting, lots of rehearsals, maybe means your swing's not functioning as well as you'd like it to and you need more time to feel it all out before you hit your shot.
    • A study done by the European Tour shows spending less time over the ball produces better shots.  This makes sense. I can see where if you are over the ball a long time you lose the ability to make a more athletic swing. There is also the possibility of just overthinking the shot while over the wall as well and not being in the right headspace.
    • I recently picked up a vintage Ping Hoofer Lite carry bag.  I am not sure how old it is but estimate it is probably from around 2012 or so? I cannot figure out how to adjust the straps! I am going to try to attach a picture of the bag and will also describe it below. I cannot figure out how to adjust the straps in a way that makes the bag comfortable to carry.  The bag also seems to want to be more upright/ vertical than how you would normally carry a bag like this. I have tried to search this site and others on the web but almost all info is on the newer ping Hoofer bags which have quite a different design. The bag is pretty minimal in terms of pockets and has no handle on the top.  It has 2 backpack straps that are not connected to each other.  They are connected to the top of the bag and in the middle of the bag above the primary ball/ gear pocket. Any feedback appreciated, thanks for your help!
