Tell me about your wedges. Who uses a PW, SW and Gap Wedge. Lob Wedge, too? Anyone up to 64 degrees?

I find it all confusing to play. I use a PW for everything, but I might hit a LW at 60 yards because I know that is as far as I can hit it. Am I missing something?

:)

I have a Gap wedge, bought it to replace my pitching wedge which I somehow managed to lose, no big lose though since I couldn't the damn thing very well anyways. A standard pitching wedge by itself was next to impossible to find in the stores around me & to be honest I hit the gap a lot better than I ever did the lost club.

i recently replaced my old SW and 59* LW with a gap wedge and 56* SW. i like the combo much better. i can do anything with my new 56* than i couild with my 59* plus i got a nice gap wedge to fill in the ...gap

Hello,

I play a Cleveland 588 SW and a Cleveland 900 GW.
Beside that I use the PW of my Cleveland TA5.

I really consider using a GW! It is the most played club in my bag for short things!

I carry a gap wedge and find it very useful. There's a pretty big gap between my PW and SW it fills nicely and I like to chip with it around the greens too.

Hello,

I've got the TA5's as well. The TA5 PW is 45 degrees and with a 56 deg SW I really need a gap wedge in there.

essentially, most modern "game improvement" sets are set up to force a GW if your SW is 56 or higher. I thought my Titleists were strong with a 46 degree PW, but now I'm seeing 45 and 44, which used to be a 9iron. In the old days, the sets had the PW at 50 and that worked well with a 55 or 56 degree SW. I essentially built my lofts around my SW at 54 degrees and 100 yards and then added a LW for tight touch shots around the green and in the sand and added up everything else on top of that...50 degree GW and PW at 46 and so on. It allowed me to take out my 3 iron because I kept 4 degrees of loft in between all clubs. My 4 iron is almost what an older 2 iron was in loft at 22 degrees.

My gap (52*) is my go-to club for 110 yards and in. I chip around the greens with it and my 56* depending on how much run I need after it hits.

I carry a gap wedge (52*) and lob wedge (60*) in my bag, if only because I already had the lob wedge and needed something that fitted nicely between my 46* pitching wedge and my lob. I use my gap for 110yds to 60yds (from then on in, I use my lob wedge...it is my favorite club and the one with which I have the most sentimental attachment).

I absolutely love my 64 degree. I also carry the 56 and 50 in my bag. SInce i hit my drive 300+ yards most shots into the greens are with my wedges. They work wonders around the green as well.

Thanks everyone. Longdrive, I'm with you. I'm a 280+ hitter, but I need to score better, and trying to baby a PW or slam a LW ain't working.

I've gotten rid of my fairway woods and now use a Rescue Mid #2 and #5, which I find are much more accurate than my 3W and 3/4 iron (although I still carry a 4-iron for punch shots out of the woods :) My PW is 47*, SW is 56*, and LW is 60*. I'm at my best when I can take the same speed full swing on any shot, so I'm looking at a nice 52* gap. My new Odyssey Rossi putter has saved my butt this year!

I bought my wedges one at a time as my game progressed. My first was a 56° that I can hit about 105 to 110 yards on a full swing. But i had a big gap between that and my 46° PW. So i filled it in with a 50° gap wedge. My last purchase was a 60° LW.

I just dumped the 3 iron with my new set, and replaced it with a lob wedge to go along with my 47 PW, 52 Gap and 56 sand. Only really used the 3 iron for chipping out of the trees anyway because of my hybrid, and a 4 iron does the trick out of the junk just as good as the 3.

    • Day 35 (6 Jan 26) - Got opportunity to play today, opted to mix it up - pulled Driver, 3w and 4h, keeping 7w, 5-Pw, 50 and 55 wedges and putter.  Played a set of tees up as well - goal: focus on the irons, especially the scoring clubs.  Had one of the sessions in a while (3 over 39 front, 6 over 42 back (a couple late round poor shot choices)).  Had a blast working a 10 club setup…
    • Day 17 - 2026-01-06 Mix of mat and net work, same focus on trail side and hands. Mirror work again later in the day.
    • Hi all. I have sought permission from admin to post this here. First, here's a quick link to my products on TST, which a few of the mods have been road-testing...  Most of you would be aware of the import tariffs imposed on importers to the US circa September last year. Prior to their introduction, I was selling a decent number each week into the 'States. Since the tariffs came in - which added ~AU$60 to the total cost of getting them over there - sales have dropped to virtually nil. I think fear of the tariffs is the biggest part rather than the actual cost increase, despite me declaring everywhere on my site that we pay the tariffs and have successfully got every order into the US without any problems since. What is still unknown to most US consumers is that these tariffs will DOUBLE in February as Australia Post will no longer be allowed to offer "private" rates, they all change to "commercial". I do indeed think that this will make the products uncompetitive to ship there. So what's the backstory?  I'm a small Aussie business, not some corporate juggernaut. I invented these products - not a reseller for someone else. The import tariffs double in February, so add another ~15% to the total cost. If you want StanceMate alone I can do a super deal on a run-out model PREVIEW HERE (note you cannot purchase this yet. I think the shipped price will be about AU$110 inc Shipping (tariffs included). If you want to reduce the cost of the whole Stryper Plus Bundle I can swap the runout StanceMate to reduce the overall price by AU$60. These work EXACTLY as the newer version, just not as premium quality in the way the finish is achievbed in production) IMPORTANT: All import tariffs are PRE-PAID at my end, and clears customs no problem. I've sent a half dozen since October with every one delivered. NB: I'm not here to get into the politics of the decisions on tariffs, so let's not go down that road. It is what it is! So StanceMate to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - about US$70 Bundle to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - US$240 Bundle (with version 1 StanceMate) to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - US$200 Cheers Corbs
