But, remember, Shorty, that although the title may be a little grandiose and unnecessary, the MLB, and NFL, and NHL, and NBA are all VERY open to competitors from overseas.  Yes, the teams themselves are based in the states or Canada, but the players are the very best players from all ends of the earth.

If they PGA tour ever started any stateside team competitions amongst their members, they may label said teams with American cities, but it's not like they would exclude foreign players from those teams.

For me, the Open Championship is the US Open. The British Open is the British Open.
