so today i went to the range, happily i was stuck there for 2 hours, i hit 3 baskets (60 balls each), when i was in my third bucket, i am a left handed player, i felt a huge blister on the palm of my right hand like right where the club is supposed to sit on the outside, it is huge. also, i got a slight blister on my left thumb (bottom hand along the grip) and i use the interlocking grip and sorta peeled off the skin on the side of my left 4th finger.

any way to avoid this next time? or is hitting 3 baskets just too much in one day

i am also going to golf tomorrow is this a bad idea, should i let my hands rest or should i play through it

thanks

I would tape up your bad-spots for tomorrow. A little moleskin is great.

Could be a grip issue. Or it could just be your hands aren't golf-conditioned if you haven't been playing much. They'll callous over with time.

what else can be used instead of moleskin? maybe just an ordinary bandaid under my glove?

i forgot to mention if people were going to say to use a glove, i do use one it went through

If you don't have moleskin, just use some athletic tape. I don't know if a bandaid will last through a round of golf. Especially with taking off and putting on your glove over and over throughout the day. A bandaid covered in athletic tape will probably last.

thank you i will do that

Super Glue works wonders for blisters as well.  I use it all the time for bowling blisters.

Just put a drop on the blister and let it dry and harden.  It will create a nice tough patch over the blister.   Just make sure it is completely dry before you close your hand, put on your golf glove, or grab your club.

Your skin will toughen up over time. Hitting 180 balls over 2 hours is a ton. I try to limit myself to just 60 each time I go out. If I am working on something specific, I will go a couple days in a row rather than hitting too many in one day.

Not kidding, I've heard of baseball players peeing on their hands to toughen them up...

The super glue is to cover the open skin after the blister has popped (like second skin). You can also use super glue as an artificial callus in blister prone areas.

They're a badge of honor. Tape 'em up or just rest. Or yell this out as loud as you can to the other people at the range before going back to beat another bucket.

But if you get blisters, your grip pressure is to tight.

1) your grips are old

2) your grips are dirty

3) your gripping to tight

4) take a break inbetween buckets, go from maybe 1 bucket to short game shots, to 1 bucket, to putting, to 1 bucket. This will help take away the constant stress on the hands

Blister form from an object rubbing on the skin. You mentioned you wear a glove.... how is the fitment of the glove? People get fitted for clubs, you should be fitted for gloves as well. You want to make sure with your fingers out that you can't grab or pinch material on the palm area. Also all fingers should fit and fill the fingers of the gloves with no slack at the top of the finger. The glove should fit like a second skin. I carry two gloves with me at all times in case I am sweating enough to cause the glove to get wet, I hate humidity in Wisconsin! Also as stated above, you may need to re-grip or at least clean your grips.

Super glue can be used several ways:

1.  If a blister breaks... you can glue the skin back.

2.  If an open blister forms you just put the glue on top of the open skin and it provides a protective covering (may sting a little though).

3.  If you have an area that normally forms blisters... you can put the glue on the skin and it will provide an artificial callous.

The glue will probably wear partially off at some point during the round.  You wont have to worry about ruining the skin underneath.

    • Day 8: 3/30/25 After some poor putting yesterday I worked on some distance control drills today along with putting through 50 mm gates.
    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
