I find it incredibly odd that I made a thread the other day about holing out and how I had never had a good one and today I carded my first albatross.  I was playing in a charity scramble.  I took a risky tee shot and aimed one right over a bunker and it payed off.  We ended up choosing my drive.  From about 140 yards out I hit a pitching wedge that started in front of the green and rolled 40 feet to the back of the green and into the cup.  Was by far the most shocking golf moment of my life!

I've never had one of those either. Close a few times on both par 5s and par 4s but none of them dropped.

But then I never had only 140 yards left on a par 5 either.

That's awesome. I had one a while back from about 240 out. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it go in. Got to the green and found it in the hole.

Yeah I think I would rather have your distance of hole out, but since it was only 140 yards I was able to see the ball go in.  So Awesome!

140 yards left on a par 5? Is that the shortest par 5 ever or did you just absolutely bomb your drive?

Either way, impressive and congrats! Super jelly over here...

It was between 450-475 so not super duper long (hard to tell because they had us play the "Up" tees for the tournament but they placed most of them where the blue tees would be on a normal day.  I have google earthed where I'm pretty sure my drive landed and it was north of 300  so an above average tee shot for me.

Fair enough. Either way, great job...and even though it was a scramble, fortunately you hit both shots, so you get to count it fully! Would have sucked if it was someone elses drive!!!

Very ambitious of you to entitle the thread "first" albatross. :-)

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I guess I'm gonna play from the tips everywhere even though my handicap doesn't call for it, just so any accomplishments can be recognized on here.

Lol, I do that anyway. I like a challenge and it makes me better for doing so.
Alright, here is the layout of the hole.  The top path is how I would think that the hole is measured for distance purposes.  The top path is about 465 yards.  The bottom path is what I believe to be the shot path that I took.  That path is about 455 yards.  The spot where my shot path intersects the cart path the last time is roughly 300 yards.  My 2nd was played just beyond that cart path.  This distances aren't official but they are the best that I can provide.
Please don't take this the wrong way; but I think you should just let it go. As the picture one of the earlier posters posted of a half-naked Batman in rollerblades said, "Haters gonna hate." My take: You played the tees the course had set up and it was to be played as a par 5. You holed out your 2nd shot, so it's an albatros according to me, and well I don't know, the rules of golf. On a personal note, I have played a par 4 that is normally over 400 yards, but due to construction alongside the hole and drainage issues in a valley-type area in the fairway of the hole, the one tee marker was in the fairway playing 275 yards. And, you were still supposed to play it as a par 4.

I will occasionally, but I refuse to play at 7,000 yards...it just doesn't make sense for someone at my level. I like a challenge, but don't enjoy shooting over 100. lol

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
