I've been building my bag slowly and haven't added a 3 or 5 wood yet. So far I've played a couple 9 holes and shot 18 over par the time I kept score. I do top the ball(more often at the range than on the course). Slicing is another problem, but recently had my irons cut a 1/2", started to choke up on my hybrid and driver(Ping G10) which seems to have helped a lot. Can anyone recommend me some forgiving woods to add to my bag? Not looking for anything to break the bank and am fine with used clubs.

Thanks

You'll find forgiving fairway woods in the pro shop in between the unicorn horns and the flying pigs! Try hitting it with a 3/4 swing! Worked for me!

I have a G15 3 wood thats nice and affordable. Its easy for me to hit off the deck. I don't always hit it straight but I get it into the air almost every time. My swing thought is a slow smooth back swing with fairway woods and I usually do ok.

I recently added Tour Edge Exotics XRail FWs. High MOI, gets the ball up quick, and has low-spin shaft which helps ball hold line well into wind. For an added margin of error, I carry the 4W and 7W.

My review, if you're interested: http://thesandtrap.com/products/tour-edge-exotics-xrail-fairway-woods/reviews/4747

Golf Digest reported a couple of years ago that many golfers find a 4W is easier to hit than a 3W. (A little extra loft works wonders). At least try out some 4Ws when you're searching.

Also consider the Cobra Baffler TRail +, a similar type of FW.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try some 4 woods out. I did see the G15 comes in a 4 wood so that could be an option, but not sure if I'd find one in the range I'm looking for. I'm planning on going to golfsmith tomorrow to see what they have. Might even trade in a club toward a wood...I picked up a 58* sm4 for a ridiculous price, but don't think its the right club for me.

I don't even carry a 5 wood anymore, my TM Burner is just collecting dust.  I replaced it and my 4 and 5 irons with hybrids and haven't looked back.  I hit my Burner Rescue 3 Hybrid about as far as my 3 wood and more accurately.  But either one one of my hybrids more than suffices in place of any time during a round I might have otherwise contemplated a 5 wood.  I just prefer hitting more down on the ball vs having to sweep at it with a wood.

Best Score 2017:  82 (Traditions at the Glen, Par 70)

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

Went to golfsmith today. So out of what I saw I tried a Cobra SZ? 3w, Cobra Speed LD 3w, and TM R9 4w. I was going to get the R9 but it had a fujikura rombax x-stiff shaft. Any opinions on these clubs?

My buddy has a R9 iron set and 5 wood I think maybe 3 but he loves em. I havent hit the wood but the irons are amazing.

hit a g20 and bought it. no complaints and it absolutely flies. if you sweep it too much you get a low line drive that rolls out forever, but when you get on it right you can absolutely crush it high and deep.

it also takes some of the spin out of the ball. i've hit a few really bad ones and it doesn't slice nearly as far as you think it would when you see it take off.

the only thing i can't do with it yet is hit consistently out of the rough. my hybrids are much easier to do that with, but i still take a proper iron for the thick stuff.

let us know how you like it. If you are topping the ball you are likley swaying in your swing or lifting up and not staying down on the ball. I had this same problem last year and during a lesson we fixed my swaying and coming up out of my posture which led to better fairway wood shots. Right now I have 2 sets of FW. Ping k15 3 and 5 woods. And the Tour Edge Trilogy 4w and 7w. The Pings are the easist to hit that I have owned or demo'd. They are a bit on the large size head wise so from the rough they are not that versatile. But off the tee and fairway you can't go wrong. The Trilogies are very nice too but not as forgiving for me. They play better from the rough with their sole design.

I've hit the cobra 3-4 adjustable and the nike vrs 4 woods and really liked them. I am going to be getting a vr2 pro 3 hybrid this week or next and then the vr2 pro 4 wood to go with the vr2 pro driver for consistency. I like the 4 wood 3 hybrid combo because they are easier to hit than 3 and 5 woods.

I have the covert tour fairway wood, which although being the tour model is surprisingly easy to hit with the cavity back, the head is also very stable through impact. I would test both regular and tour models as you can adjust the tour to 17 degrees

I have VR Pros and think they are FANTASTIC - sound, feel , controllability, etc.  you really know when you hit it well - right at contact.

4 Hybrid (24 degrees?) (ProjectX 6.5)

5 wood (19 degrees) (Mitsu Diamana Ahina Stiff) - limited version

3 wood (15 degrees) (Mitsu Diamana Ahina Stiff) - limited version

(VR Pro STR8 fit driver) (Mitsu Diamana Ahina Stiff)

The only problem is the 4h is the smallest hybrid offered (the hybrids go from 4h up to 1h).  I'd consider the lower hybrids for my bag, but I have zero issues hitting 5w and 3w from fairway or low/medium rough).  I'd like to upgrade the shaft to the Ahina on my 4h, but it's a great club.

The hybrid form is NOT pear shaped at all and it's 'advertised' as a better fit for a 'better player' - whatever that means.

Since these are about 3 years old (after the Sasquatches, before the VRS and the Covert) - there are a lot of great deals on clearance.

I don't think they come in a 4 wood........however, the woods can be found with the STR8 fit adjustable hosel - but it's not really adjustable to loft, so you'd have to do a lot of inference with the open/close feature and then use eyeballs, instead of setting with the sole at setup to get the loft you are trying to get for a 4w equivalent (17 degrees?) - seems too complicated.

I am looking at a couple of 4 woods on ebay right now. The driver I have coming is the 6.0 Project X stiff shaft, looking at similar for the 4 wood and 3h with the 5.5 Project X.

You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
