The one thing that stuck out to me is that your backswing does not reach close to parallel.

That's not always important. Take, for example, J. B. Holmes.

A backswing that reaches parallel often has breakdowns in the wrists and elbow(s). I'm more concerned with amount of torso turn and arm travel.

It's tough to tell from this one video.  Backswing looks pretty darn nice to me, but the thing I saw was it appears you are starting the downswing with your hands/arms/shoulders rather than a weight shift with the lower part of your body.

Thanks all for the replies!  Iacas could you please further explain what you mean by torso turn and arm travel?  Are you saying I don't do enough torso turn and too much arm travel?  And guisppe, you are right!  I am trying to work on starting the downswing with my lower body.

I don't think Iacas was  commenting on your swing but rather responding to  TMAC's suggestion that you were not parallel at the top (i.e. Iacas does not think you necessarily need to get parallel with the club).  Your torso turn and arm travel is quite good.  In fact it looks a lot like Tiger's in the two photos posted by Tmac!

Yes, exactly. If the wrists are allowed to cock/hinge a little bit more, you'll get closer to parallel, but you've turned your torso far enough and your arms have traveled quite far, too, so you don't need to try to keep turning more or anything like that.

Ok guys thanks a ton for the replies.  Here is a picture of my impact position...  One thing that stuck out to me is that my right heel is coming off the ground quite a bit...  Also it does appear as if I am flipping?

Yes, you sure are flipping it in your photo. Jim Mclean calls that  a "death move" that has to be fixed and it is one of the 5 keys of the instructors here.   You should look at the 5sk videos on "flat left wrist" at impact.

1st, your weight is not forward, its back. The back heel usually comes off the ground because your weight is not on your front foot. Your right foot is turning to keep you standing up. Imagine if we erased your right leg from the image, (right leg as in your right leg, not the right leg as in the one on the right in the image). Do you think you would be standing up right? I think you would fall over.

Yes your flipping. The clubhead will be passing the hands way before the ball. Usually flipping is a by product of a non steady head, and not enough weight forward. Its so you don't bury the club in the ground way before the ball. Though sometimes that is common as well if some other factors pop up. Heavy and thin shots are very much caused by the same overall problems. Why alot of people say, they hit both fat and thin shots.

Sorry for the absolutely terrible quality...

Early release can be caused by several different things. It's impossible to diagnos by a picture and or a full speed swing. I suggest you consult a local teaching pro and or download the V1 Pro app and video your swing. A slow motion example is easier to pinpoint where the breakdown occurs, but more, what is causing the early release. Personally, my early release has been explained to me as a turn issue. My body doesn't clear properly - shifting into line vs. down the line - and my hands begin to release at the 7 o'clock position to catch up and reach the ball. Result is high ball flight. In your PW swing above, your head appear's still and you finish nicely on your left side. I like your tall, even shoulder finish position. Your swing looks good for a 2 year player. You are on your way to much lower scores! Enjoy. Amac

Hi guys I have been working on all the advice given and I have also taken some lessons here and there.  I like to think that my swing has improved.  What do you guys think?  Is there anything else you think that I am doing wrong?

Looks like you're still a little flippy. Might be something you could change by addressing the ball differently. Maybe see if setting up with your hands further in front of the ball helps out (That's what I did to fix my issue)

You on the left, Adam Scott on the right. Notice how Adam's hands are more out infront of his chest. Also his right arm doesn't raise up, and his left arm is straighter. You stop your shoulder turn and then you raise your arms vertically allowing them to break down.

Check out this video on how to shorten the backswing, and also keep the hands in a good position in the backswing, keeping that left arm straighter.

    • This entirely depends on where you play. I play courses that usually have three groups and a couple of singles out per side, and I would say no, but then I get to an urban course, like Long. Island, or South Florida, and it's anger management time.  I like to watch my friends's shots, and compliment their successes, I take a couple practice swings if I am in an uneven lie, or whatever, but I am not going to spend time searching for extra balls while walking between shots, or sit and BS at the tee before shooting. For some reason I am always ready to hit first, honors or no, and I just don't get why people take so long there. As long as I can do the things I enjoy, like watching my shots and my friends shots, and take due care taking my shots and putting, I don't feel rushed, but three hours for a foursome means you have four serious golfers. My golfing is more social so that is unlikely to happen. I play with one guy who takes pace seriously, and we do fine.  If we want to pick up the pace of a group, we play best ball.
    • It would  be cool to see him get his card and do well, in this age of specialists from day 1, someone takes a different route and makes it.
    • Well, what if a feel for you produces a result for another that doesn't work at all? That is the problem of using feels in trying to describe what is going on. I am not you, you are not me, and we are not Mickey Wright.  Each golfer needs to find their own feel for what might produce the same movement. 
    • GOT, Walking Dead, and 13 Reasons Why.
    • It's not the powers that be. It's anybody who understands the golf swing and its mechanics. "feel" is never scientific nor does it provide any evidence. You don't agree with that? "Reasons to support the old school motion". Iacas has repeatedly stated he supports your appreciation for what you call 'Old School". He stated he's fine and even teaches the lifting of the lead heal if it allows one to gain better rotation. You seem to be trying to defend something and I'm not sure what it is you're defending. The rear leg does not retain its flex completely on the bs. You can have the 'feeling' all you want that it does. But it doesn't. Just like 'feeling' you keep your trail arm straight to help widen your swing. It's impossible to keep straight. Feeling it as being straight? Fine. I don't think you seem to understand that just because these 'old school' golfers SAID what they felt or did during a swing doesn't  represent WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DID. Mickey Wright can say she tried to get all her weight or 95% of it on her trail leg in the backswing. Fine. But she didn't. You can't possibly believe that if we put these "old school" golfers on pressure plates their readings would be vastly different than today's 'modern players'?  No one has said the old school motion was wrong. What has been stated, correctly by Iacas, is that what you're describing as what is being done by that swing is incorrect. Hell, you even just admitted your statement on weight shift was inaccurate.  So....what, again, is your point?
