Hello All, I'm PJ from New York.

I'm 29 and just started playing golf rather seriously this past summer. I owned clubs since I was in high school but only played maybe once or twice a year and never made any attempt to improve. I was terrible, but I enjoyed it. I played a lot of contact sports growing up (Wrestling, Rugby, Jiu Jitsu) and this past summer my body was ready to try a less punishing (physically not mentally!) sport. I started off shooting in the 120's with some generous scoring. Now I am on the cusp of breaking 100 and score accurately (still a mulligan for each 9) I have a mish mash of used clubs and my set up is Driver, 3W, 3H, 4H 5i-PW 52*, 56*, 60*. I'm probably going to get the Strata Plus Set for Xmas.

I joined this forum because anytime I type a golf question into google I end up here so I figured why not join in the conversation.

Driver: Callaway Mavrik 10*

Wood: Callaway Epic Flash 17*

Hybrid: Callaway Mavrik 20*

Irons: Callaway Rogue X 5i-GW

Wedges: Vokey SM8 54*S and 58*K

Putter: Ping Prime Tyne 4

    • Day 154 - Played 18 with some buddies. Started off pretty terrible, but put together some good holes.
    • When it comes to set up routine in regards to alignment, I generally prefer my students to: 1) clubface, 2) chest and 3) feet. When the foot alignment happens before chest alignment, we tend to have issues.  I use this example often. I did an introductory flight for flight school, as a student gave me a certificate for it. As most new flyers are, I was staring at the instruments trying to be perfect. I was doing a 30 degree turn and didn’t realize the nose dropped. It had felt normal. The instructor said I had to learn what flat/level is in the air. Kind of a funny thing to say. He said to look at the horizon and nose and recognize their relationship, in order to determine level.  In golf, we see straight from behind the ball. But, when we set up to the ball, we lose what “straight” is. Have someone hold an alignment stick across your chest when you are in full set up and recognize where your lead shoulder is pointing in relation to your target.
    • Day 86. Some technique work followed by short game practice. Need to learn to flight the wedges down more.
    • Day 38 (8 Jun 24) - nephew’s HS graduation celebration about 2hrs from home  - took most of the day so did some mirror work this evening after getting fro the event.
    • Day 168: 6/8/24 Chipping and putting practice through gates.
