I've been hitting my 5 wood so so recently but the last couple of weeks, I'm hitting it fat a lot and hitting off slicing to the right.  I'm not hitting my irons fat and I'm wondering if I'm possibly dipping down in my backswing.  Could this be one of the causes?

Check ball position, move it back slightly

If you relax and don't grip it hard in the transition, you might not dip (if you're dipping), or you might not OTT if you start the downswing from the feet up...

What do you mean by OTT?

I'm playing the ball just front of centre.  Maybe slightly further ahead of where I hit a 5 iron.

Most golfers at one time or another, have a poor transition from the top of the swing, begging grabbing the club, and start the downswing with their shoulders - so their shoulders and club face are turned to the left at impact - that move, combined with their path, causes what we call a slice...

Check your ball position, for a wood off the ground you want it near were you play the long irons, just inside your left armpit.

Also, keep more flex in your front leg through impact. You are not getting your weight forward.

Also work on getting your left hand inline with the ball at impact, or slightly ahead of the ball at impact.

Besides that take a video of your swing, post it in the "My Swing" section of the forum to get more in detail advice.

Also, NEVER put the ball further back in your stance to adjust for hitting it fat. That will cause you to have an even steeper angle into the ball causing more fat shots. Get the ball forward and shallow out that swing path a bit. For a 3 wood it should be just a slight down strike on the ball, nothing to steep. If you take a divot, it should be a very shallow one.

Also, i doubt it is dipping down. Its probably not having the weight forward, not having a flat left wrist at impact, and the ball to far back so you are flipping at the ball, hitting the ground first.

Take the above advice.

I tend to play the ball too far forward - so I always look for the simple stuff first.

But yes, get that weight forward … and no flippee

    • I have fought shoulder issues and seem to now have a pull/baby fade going on.  Not a great video, but are these numbers ok or should i try to get in to out.  I've realized this winter my concept of in to out was wrong in that what felt in to out was actually just the face being open to get it right.  The first one was rushed the second one is more typical.  Minor pull or if the numbers line up baby fade back to target.

    • I suppose Rory will indulge in a bit of guilty pleasure giving Bryson some of his own medicine. Saw a piece of Rory's interview on some documentary about last year's Masters where BDC was still trying to game/mess with him long after he had stopped being a factor. At least that was Rory's perspective. Dude's a huntn dog and a storyteller. I'm going to enjoy this one knowing the end even more so than last year. And yeah, I know it's only half way through but Im early celebrating this one.
