Trying to teach the grand boys.

My two grandsons are now playing golf with me. The oldest one Austen just turned 14 and the younger Carson is 11. Austen has a hand me down set of RAM clubs that I gave him and Carson has a kids set of Titechs that we gave him for Christmas. I find it to be quite a bit of fun to help them out. It could be they get a bit tired of me "showing them how to do it" but they always want to play again.

Last week after a round of nine playing with a friend of mine we decided to do a bit of chipping practice off  the rough high ground surrounding the practice green. I wanted to make it interesting so I took a dollar bill and weighed it down with a golf ball on the green. I told the boys that the first one who chips in the air out of the rough from thirty feet onto the green or first cut and rolls the ball over the dollar wins it. If you snug it up to the dollar you win two of them.  It took a few tries but Carson  used his jr nine iron,  chipped and stopped a ball on top of the bill twice...in a row.

I was shocked because it was not an easy shot.

I think I need to buy him a sand wedge.

Bravo on creating a game to keep the boys interested. Though it might cost you a lot in the long run

I've read that making practice fun is really the key to getting kids to do it. Definitely better than being the guy at the driving range yelling at his teenaged son (I saw that once, felt bad for the kid). Thanks for sharing.
