First round going with the claw today, definitely better with the start lines and speed control. Hit a lot of solid putts. Feeling is much different though, almost feels "lazy". Which is a good feeling for me, similar feeling to the dynamics I worked on with Erik in the past. Miss tends to be a push which is completely different than my old miss.

After reading the post about experimenting with claw grip I tried it again myself. Actually improved my putting by a lot. Now, not sure it'll stay that way but I'll keep using it until it stops being helpful.

slowing everything down to a smoother tempo to try and gain accuracy with my irons, hybrids.

I am experimenting with the short game. For years I have used one club from about 80 yards in, unless the lie was absolutely prohibitive. I am varying that up some, and may acutally carry more than one ancillary wedge in addition to the pitching wedge.

I doubt if I would have had balls enough to make that change. ;-)

I don't have a good comeback for this. :-(

I've changed my grip a little bit. It's helped tame my driver and my shot is more like a fade (I think that's what it's called as it moves away from me...). I'm trying to keep the clubface of my driver square at address and I'm hitting it a lot straighter than before.

Now if I could only get it to go more than 180 yards... but 180 straight is good... especially for me. Irons will be next. They don't go very far for me but are mostly straight. For the most part anyway.

Chris

I don't play golf, I play at golf. There's a difference.

Taking lessons this year for the first time and the focus has really been on revamping my full swing. Working on a flatter, inside-to-out, swing plane with a 3/4 backswing and a more aggressive release. Not necessarily an experiment, but it feels like it at times. Other than that, I've started marking my ball with a line for putting purposes. So far, I've found it very helpful.

" Now if I could only get it to go more than 180 yards... but 180 straight is good. "

Yeah, I have made a lot of progress on my slice, but have lost a lot of distance too, I am working on stretching to increase my flexibility in this new swing plane, but it is slow work. It just feels wrong, but the ball goes straight or only fades slightly. The swing that felt really good resulted in a "towering banana slice" so I guess I am just going to have to get used to it and hope the distance comes over the course of the season.

I also might reduce the loft on the driver, as the ball seems to take a very high flight then falls with no roll to speak of. I have to be wasting a lot of ball energy there.

But like you said, 180 yards and straight is workable, especially for an old guy like me picking up the game who doesn't play at Quail Hollow, or Augusta from the tips and enjoys the social aspects of golf mostly. I just want to be good enough to play with my friends without dragging their game down while still respecting the rules.
