Opinions on my golf bag

Hello All,

I just recently (last fall) starting getting into golf again. I golfed as a kid (16 and younger) but nothing in the recent years. I am now 26 and I really started enjoying playing the sport when i went to a course out here in Long Island NY with three of my buddies. I am unaware of my handicap but i usually shoot around 120 on your normal 18 hole course.

I had a set of Top Flite XL-TI clubs which came as a set. I recently upgraded my clubs last month to the following and I wanted to get everyones opinion on if they felt my bag is pretty much "complete" for the time being.

The Good Stuff:

Taylormade RBZ driver

Cobra AMP 3 wood

Taylormade RBZ 3 hybrid

Taylormade RBZ 4 hybrid

Taylormade RBZ 5i-PW

Nike VRS AW

Cobra Trusty Rusty 55 deg SW

Cobra Trusty Rusty 60 deg GW

Rossa (Taylormade bootleg?) spider putter

The Small Stuff:

Callaway Hyperlite 3.5 bag

Golf balls consist of anything from bridgestone to callaway, etc etc.

Have enough tees that i seem to lose or break routinely. Have a divot repair tool and ball marker as well as a nike glove and a brush/towel for cleaning the clubs.

Does anyone feel as though I am missing anything? I use my cellphone (swing by swing golf app) as a GPS which works nicely. My short game and putting is actually pretty good for a "beginner", however my original "drive" off the tee can use some more work.

Sounds like you have everything you need to play the game. You have good clubs for a beginner. They will serve you well. I can only assume you are loosing a lot of balls and consequently taking a lot of drops to get to a 120 avg., correct? Focus on control rather than distance. Distance will come in time with a more fundamentally sound swing. If you have any questions, just post a thread. Any one of us will do our best to help you out. There are a lot of really good, smart guys in here that have already helped me!

Besides all the 'stuff', do you have ample 'desire' to improve?  Are you a team player or like to go it alone in sports? Can you tolerate the humbling experience of miserable performances and failed daily dreams? Can you enjoy the  rainy day after paying out $50 for 4 hours of walking in the wet? Can you accept the missed 6 inch putt without throwing the club into the lake?

The three things I find most helpful to keep in/on my bag are as follows:

- Sports Tape (similar to this http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=75620&catid;=59968&aid;=338666&aparam;=75620) I find that something about my swing and grip always results in the fourth finger on my right hand receiving some extra wear and tear. I suspect it is my interlocking grip, but this tape still gives me a good grip while keeping my hand from bleeding after long days of golf, which most certainly affects your grip. Any soft cloth tape will work for this application.

- Scrub Brush (I personally use a Frogger brush http://www.froggergolf.com/frogger-brushpro/) This is helpful for cleaning my clubs before and after a round, and during the round if my club gets a bit of clay or stubborn debris stuck to it. It's especially handy for getting the green plastic streaks off of your club after hitting off of mats at the driving range.

- Towel (I personally use a towel of this model that I bought at a course, which means it has the course name on one side http://www.golfsmith.com/product/30050651/club-glove-microfiber-caddy-and-pocket-towels) I really like this towel because it holds water well and, my favorite part, has a slot in the middle of the towel. I use this slot to keep the towel on my bag, by sliding my alignment rod through the slot in the towel. It keeps the towel from falling off, and I wet down the side of the towel that hangs opposite where my back touches the bag. This lets me wipe off my clubhead and grip with the wet side of the towel, then quickly dry them with the other side before I take every shot, ensuring a clean club. Just a bit of a personal thing by me since I like to look at a clean club at address, but it's always good to at least wipe your clubs off after each shot so that you don't have dirt just sitting on them between rounds.

Two weeks ago I had a spot of basal cell melanoma removed from the side of my neck that was about half the diameter of a golf pencil. Took 7 stitches to close. Tomorrow I go for a similar sized spot on my forehead. May have to change my screen name to scarface.:-\ Wear sunscreen.
