My Swing (mp294708)

13 posts in this topic

Hello All,

Attached is a video of my swing from the down the line angle. My most common ball flight is a push slice. Starts out straight and ends up right of my intended target or target line. The thing I notice wrong with my swing is my downswing. I come over the top and get the shaft angle too steep. I'm not sure how to fix this so any suggestions would be great. I've tried a few things but have become frustrated at the range recently. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, comments, or ideas, anything is welcome.

Thanks!

Sup man . . .  you gotta post your swings here and the more knowledgeable members will give you some great stuff to work on.

The only thing I'll say is that your right arm/elbow is not staying in front of your body throughout the swing. Try this drill . . .did wonders for my ball-striking. Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

Looks like your right elbow at the top of the backswing looks too far out from your body. Keep it tighter to your body. It will allow you to come from the inside better on downswing, resulting in more of a draw swing. Common drill is keeping golf glove under right armpit during swing.

I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, in the past 2 years i've began to get more serious about my game.

My current handicap index or average score is: high handicap

My typical ball flight is: push slice

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I'm trying to eliminate my over the top swing on my down swing.

Videos:

Let me know what you think and any suggestions for correcting my steep downswing.

Thanks!

Really appreciate the feedback, I'll keep in my that my right elbow needs to be more tucked on my downswing.

First place I would start, check out the video. Your hips don't turn very much, makes it hard to swing outward.

Also even though your going to try and keep that right elbow more tucked be careful of taking the club back too far inside, swing the club back with rotation of your upper body not your arms.

How did I know we'd see this video again?

I'm glad my A4 (not really) is getting so much play!

Beast! :D

Should I just put the video in the welcome PM's? ;-)

I should just add it to the template for My Swing threads.

Okay, back on topic… Do you understand what we're saying, @mp294708 ?

Yes, thank you I really appreciate the feedback. I actually went to the range again today and worked more on hip rotation and keeping that right arm tucked a bit more. I actually managed to hit a draw. I almost cried at the sight, it was beautiful. I guess from here on I will just need to keep working on the mechanics so I can get it down to muscle memory. Thanks again!

Hey guys,

Today I got my first lesson ever. My first member swing I posted was pre-lesson, about 2 weeks ago now. These are two videos of my swing now after my first lesson. During the lesson the instructor told me my swing looked great, just needed a few improvements. One being my take away. He showed me how my back swing was too inside causing my right arm to separate from my body too quickly. He fixed this by widening my take away and keeping it more down the line. The thing that I wanted to improve on was ball striking. I told him I wanted to learn how to compress the ball and have forward shaft lean. He gave me the front foot drill, with the right foot behind you on your toe. The point is to keep your balance and not pull off the ball like I was doing before. He instructed me to throw my hands at the ball and keep my front shoulder closed more during impact. He also instructed me to use my hips and keep those shoulders closed longer. The thing I struggled with was throwing those hands at the ball. I don't trust my hands enough and this causes me to use my shoulders more and come over the top.

Anyway, I wanted to hear all your thoughts on how my improved swing looks and what I need to do or could practice on, other than of course what my instructor gave me to work on.

Thanks

    • Which page is that rule on?
    • 9/26 - kettle bell & cable column work for core strength and weight shift work. Slow swings with 8i. Hope to play 9 holes this morning, time permitting.
    • It was fun to watch, Rory slowly moving up the leaderboard and with Chappell becoming a bit nervy on the final holes, Rory made it into a playoff. Rory didn't take full advantage of his shots on the par 5, and on the 15th I thought he had lost it. But great putts on the 15th and 16th to win in. What a fantastic golfer to watch, and he can smash the ball out there, almost hit his drive it in the lake on 18.
    • The length of the driving range is limited by houses and a road. So the ball flight is way shorter as with normal balls. So what reads 200 yards on the driving range in reality is much shorter. But I think this does not really matter for now. What I found out is the following. When doing my grip I twist my left wrist extremly to the right. At impact this delofts my clubs a big time. The head is very closed. The iron 7 I was talking about at least becomes an iron 4 loftwise ( i am judging this by eye on comparing to my other clubs). So now numbers maybe begin to make sense. Loftwise we are talking about an iron 4. What happens to the driver is that it even gets a negative loft which explains why balls just go up in the air with a very long tee. The 3 wood on the other hand gets the loft the driver should have. So this makes the longest shots. This is also explains why I had a very hard time hitting my hybrid. This hybrid (4 iron) becomes something like a club with loft 0.  So probably I am twisting my wrist to much ( there is a special term for this hand position which I don't remember). But this gives me 2 advantages. 1) I don't slice the ball with the driver 2) It is easier to hit down on the ball with the iron for me. Before this I had the wrist turned to the left (I think this is called neutral grip) which did not work at all for me. So I think in general this hand position helps a lot when not overdoing it. The V of the left hand index and middle finder should point to the right shoulder as far as I know. My V pointed right of my shoulder. I will tweak this position a bit. I think I am just overdoing it at the moment. I am pretty sure the iron 7 distance will get down when doing this and the driver distance will get up. We will see.
    • How many softball questions get lobbed at each candidate? How many times will Trump say "Believe me!" and "It's like incredible" the word "tremendous" and "Crooked Hillary" How many times Hillary will dance around the e-mail scandal? Will Hillary blow up? Will Hillary challenge Trump to do arithmetic? Or will that be out of bounds? It will be interesting to hear how lowering taxes on the rich and lowering corporate taxes will balance the budget - I've heard that whopper before. Will Trump challenge Hillary on the 2nd amendment? Will Hillary challenge Trump on his pandering to the religious right with the "freedom of speech and religion" proposal to allow discrimination against GLBT people.  Will either of them persuade me to not vote for Gary Johnson?
