Here's a link about a medical study on the effects of titanium-headed driver impact sound on golfer hearing.

Maybe we should wear ear plugs?

Interesting!

I have been using an ear plug in my right ear while golfing for the last few years as I suffer from tinnitus.

These loud titanium drivers make it necessary.

I thought about it once while playing golf on a simulator indoors. Since then, I'm using earplugs when hitting the driver on the simulator.

I wouldn't mind the driver not being as loud as it is.

I must not play with any good golfers because I have never heard a driver sound anywhere near as loud as a gun shot and I have heard plenty of those.

Loyalty above all else, except honor.

It is a different kind of sound and last a shorter period of time. We may have a difficult time identifying the audible strength of a driver compared to a gunshot.

I came down with Meniere's disease a few years ago, after playing a lot of golf incidentally. I've lost most of the hearing in my right ear. I don't believe golf to be the cause though.

Word of caution: if you do wear ear plugs while playing golf, consider getting a helmet at the same time if you can't hear anyone yelling "FOOOORE".

I blame my wife for my hearing loss ... Might have to reconsider ... Naw ... Sticking to my original story ..;-)

      God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

      I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.

      Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.

      No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
