In my defense, I looked at the weather for your area and saw 92 and humid. I thought this might play into a mental error.  It would for me!  I melt in the heat.  Second, you built up your "sandbagging 4 HCP buddy" opponent.  So I assumed he had beat you in the past and it was gnawing at you.

Great round.  Congrats.

BTW, I beat my sandbagging 9 HCP buddy Thursday.  We finally played in the league round together.  I parred the final three holes to win it.

Yeah, it's been hotter than hell all summer. Yesterday, at 92 or so was actually a little better than last week. Some cloud coverage and a little breeze. Not much, but it beat 95, no clouds and dead still. Another buddy of mine said it best. It was like being in a jar! I don't beat him all that often, so it's a big deal when I do. These last couple of weeks have been tough on him though, as I've obviously been playing out of my mind. He's REALLY looking forward to the hcp revision on the 1st. One more round on Sunday, so I've gotta make hay while the sun shines! :-) Nice job on your match. That's a great finish to pull out the win!

Oh, I see… way to leave out pertinent information! :)

The whole premise of the thread was that I was playing well, and could I keep it up, even in the face of such blatant arrogance. Truth be told, you're guess was probably closet to what I really expected too. ;-)

I expect this one to find its way over to the spelling and grammar thread! :bugout: Damn phones.....

1.  My total score:  77

2.  # of birdies (or better):  1

3.  # bogies:  6

4.  # doubles (or worse):  ZERO......thank you @andwilk, @dfreuter415, and @JetFan1983 who predicted 0.  To heck with the rest of you rat bastards.....8 of whom predicted 2 or more!

5.  Final match play results (win/lose and score) against my sandbagging 4 hcp buddy (I get 2 strokes):  I won.....5&4!  He had a tough day, shooting 78 with 2 birdies after the match was over.

Well done.  Even though I didn't win, I was pretty close. Here were my predictions...

1.  My total score 76

2.  # of birdies (or better) 2

3.  # bogies 6

4.  # doubles (or worse) 0

5.  Final match play results (win/lose and score) against my sandbagging 4 hcp buddy (I get 2 strokes) win 2&1

Shortly before I guesstimated your match, I had played in the semi-final seniors flight match at my local club. Ironically enough, to prepare for the club match, I also played a match against my sandbagging buddy who got 9 (yes, I said NINE) strokes, and I defeated him 2 & 1, which was the score of my club match. (The club match is played at scratch, and I pulled it out by shooting a 38 on the back nine.)

In the meantime, my sandbagging friend demanded a rematch, got 10 strokes and beat me 3 & 2.

Now, my friend and I have the rubber match this coming Monday, followed by the senior flight finals later in the week, where I play a new member to the club.  So, I am hoping my experience at the club of 20 years, plus the preparation of playing a sandbagging friend will hold me in good stead.

Best of luck in your upcoming matches.

    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
    • No disrespect felt, but since you did apologize you can disrespect once in the future with no guilt.
    • So do a few thousand others. 😉 Something like 14 players born in any year will have PGA Tour status for 3+ years. What drew you to this? He's not from where you live, right? Family friend?
