We have a new St Bernard puppy. What does that have to do with needing a new driver? When we got him at six weeks old, he was a cute little 15 pound fur ball. Now at 7 months old, he's a 105 pound bull in a china shop. I brought my clubs in from the garage to clean the grips. I'm on my way to the course in a few minutes. Bedford, that's his name, knocks over my clubs and when they fell, it snapped the driver. :pound: I'll post pics when I find my camera. Also, he ate my Garmin GPS watch. Not totally. I pulled it out of his mouth, but the crystal is broken. :censored:

Yeah sounds like you may just need a new shaft

If the wife is asking, he needs a new driver ;-)

At risk of pointing out the obvious... I think you may also need a new dog.

I reshafted it last night with an old shaft I had laying around. I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry. Really humid here today. The club is a 15 year old TM 580 but it still worked. Here is exhibit A, the broken driver... Here is the sweet little 15 pound culprit (Bedford) at six weeks in March. He is with our Flat Coat Retriever (about 45 lbs) Here is 105 pound Bedford yesterday (8 months old) with my broken club. The same Flat Coat Retriever is behind him. I holding the driver up straight beside him. He's sitting. If he were standing, his back would be up to the grip. I've never seen an animal with his growth metabolism. It costs me $50 per week for food for our dogs. We have four in all. See my avatar for the Long Haired Chihuahua.

I love big dogs like a St. Bernard. I have a Bernese Mountain Dog and she's the reason I won't leave a number of fragile/expensive items unattended in the house. Her tail goes all over the place, with enough force to nearly break my nose when she hit me in the face with the tail while spinning.

I would say if you want a new driver, it sounds like your may be "broken beyond repair". If you like your current one, get a good shaft in it and keep on playing!

Gotcha, if you like the 580 I'd recommend taking a look at the SLDR S, G30, and Big Bertha

Already reshafted. I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry. I don't know how good the shaft is. It's an old stiff Calloway Steedhead graphite shaft I found in a garage sale bin. I think I paid a buck for it. Nothing but the best! :-) This is my daughter's dog. She's in grad school and still living at home. We've pretty much Bedford proofed the house, but he's an active puppy, so he still finds things. I don't think I've ever met a Bernese Mountain Dog in person. They look like they're closely related to Saints. Bernese pup... Saint pup... (sorry for the big pic)

That is a gorgeous puppy!  Beautiful! :-*

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Those are two beautiful dogs, as mentioned earlier, you have an excuse. As far as your wife is concerned, you need a new driver, I'd say a G30.

Thanks. The Saint is a great dog. He just strolled into my office looking for trouble. :-O [quote name="Seniorhacker" url="/t/77028/i-need-a-new-driver#post_1052497"]Those are two beautiful dogs, as mentioned earlier, you have an excuse. I cried, begged and pleaded and my wife gave in. Waiting for a price break for the G25. Like the looks better.

    • I had another interesting ruling last week, in a pro "junior/senior fourball" event.  Near one of the greens was a drain, with the actual grate set maybe 3 or 4 inches below the ground surface.  It wasn't in a depressed area, basically just a straight-sided hole, with the surrounding ground pretty level.  A Player's ball was in some longer grass adjacent to the grate, maybe even overhanging a bit, to the "side" of the drain, so the path of his swing was "tangent" to the circular grate.  The ball was at ground level, so 3 or 4 inches above the metal grate itself.   As I saw it, there was no way at all that the actual Obstruction would impact any reasonable swing path, so I denied relief.  I did talk it over with another official, who said he would probably have allowed the relief, but agreed that it was a borderline call.
