Just wondering if anyone on here has had their gallbladder removed. I had out patient surgery yesterday and am trying to get a very rough eta of how long I will be out of golf commission.

I had entered a reply based on watching my daughter recover from gall bladder surgery but decided against.  This is a question for your surgeon.

I plan on talking with my surgeon on my follow up appointment in two weeks and will follow her recommendations and that is why I am looking for a 'very rough eta' off of personal experience. I am very aware each case can be unique.

I've not had my gall bladder removed but did have my appendix removed, I was 8 weeks out from surgery before I could swing a club.  The first 3 or 4 rounds were a little difficult, I was very sore even though I had been to the range and hit balls prior to playing.

I had mine out just over a year ago. It was very infected, almost gangrenous. I spent three nights in the hospital on IV antibiotics. One week after surgery, I walked 3 miles with my wife and dog. My follow up with the surgeon was just a bit over two weeks following the surgery, and I played nine holes the next day. I was 59 at the time, and I was in fairly good shape, but it took awhile to get my stamina back. Do exactly what the doc tells you, and you should be fine.

Two years ago a friend of mine had gall bladder surgery and was playing again in less than 4 weeks.

    • Here's the thing, the Rules are fine here, the problem is at the local Committee (or lack of Committee) level.  The basic Rule is appropriate for most Temporary Water in a Bunker situations.  Indeed, it offers a bit more flexibility than the Rule for Temporary Water in the General Area offers, in that you're allowed to find the Point of Maximum Available Relief, instead of requiring Complete Relief.  And for more unusual circumstances, the Rules offer an alternative in for form of a Model Local Rule.  They don't want every single player to have the authority to claim "I have no possible relief in this bunker, I'll just take it out for free", they want that authority to be at a higher level. I speak only for myself, but the more I learn about the Rules, the more I respect the way they've been put together, and the consistency of concepts throughout.  Its easy to single out one rule in isolation that you dislike, but when you see how the rules fit together as a whole things often make a lot more sense.  No doubt, Rules should be reviewed and improved, really smart people are continually doing just that, looking for cracks and loopholes.  But the changes that actually happen are really tested to see if they actually improve things, change for the sake of change just isn't going to happen.

    • Are you on the app or on the website? On the website, if you go to the performance tab, you can navigate with the side menu to see more detailed information. On those pages, you can switch between strokes gained and standard stats. You can see things like strokes gained from 50-100, 100-150, etc., strokes gained on lengths of putts. You can switch to standard information and see make rates on putt lengths. There's a good amount there to shape your practice. I don't use the app for this, so I can't help with that.
    • Temporary grandstands are in the general area though, a bunker is not so your relief options are different.  I don't really understand what is so difficult about this.  You should be more upset with whoever organizes/runs your league for not implementing GUR, not the rule itself. Especially since this is a league and if it's at the same course every time it's likely that this isn't the first time the bunker has filled up completely with water.
    • Not sure if this is best to post here or start a new thread but I'm curious which stats you pay most attention to/how you utilize Shot Scope's data/charts to drive your improvement/practice?   I have 81 holes in Shot Scope now so starting to get a decent sample size of data about my game. I can obviously see the strokes gained numbers but I'm not quite sure where to go from there in terms of how to assess what specifically I need to work on.  Obviously it's approaches and short game for me, but when I go into those tabs on the left for those specific areas, I'm not quite sure how to use the information to make it actionable in my practice.
