Good point, we'll never know, they are both dead. I believe the general premise of the question is the origin, so the short answer is the Movie Caddyshack I guess.

The special features are as good as the movie!   There  is a behind the making of.........where a ton of fun stuff is discussed.   There are 2 lengthy special features that are as entertaining to watch as the movie itself!!   Many of the scenes had no script at all!!    Harold explained what he wanted, and the actors winged/improv'd many of the most memorable scenes in the movie...

Cast and Ramos interviews, etc, etc, etc.....great stuff!!

Lots of party stories.....it was a WILD SET!!!  And a hurricane past through while filming!  The cast was cooped up in a motel.......,an extended party.  Lots of pics from these parties were shared......good stuff..  LOL

I'm actually stunned that anyone who golfs hasn't seen Caddyshack. I loved this movie years before I even thought of playing the game.

I recall from a documentary on Caddyshack that Rodney wrote all his own line for the movie.  Ramis gave him parameters for the scene and Rodney came up with the schtick.  Many of the Murray Chase scenes were either ad libbed or created by the pair.
