Recently I read somewhere on theSandTrap what the record was for the lowest score with only one club.

I wondered if anyone knows what the record is for the fastest 18 holes ever played? And what the guy scored?

:-D

Cheers

That seems like something that would be pretty easy to look up, no?

Steve Scott is regarded as the founder of speed golf (1979). On December 2, 1982, Scott set a record for the fastest round of golf played on a regulation course, completing 18 holes in 29 minutes, 33.05 seconds at Miller Golf Course in Anaheim, Calif. Using only two clubs and running from hole to hole, he posted a respectable score of 95.

A fourball consisting of Ben Crosby, Andrew Crawford, John Lyon and Russell Hayhoe (all UK) completed 18 holes in 1 hr 4 min 25 sec at Ponteland Golf Course, Northumberland, UK, on 19 June 2005.

Well, if you don't mean a round played by a single person the record is 7 minutes, 56 seconds according to this source: http://www.oobgolf.com/content/fore+play/stats/1-1790-Fastest_Round_of_Golf.html

Actually, this is the fastest a golf ball traveled 18 holes. Amazing nevertheless.

Scott shooting 90 in 29.5 minutes vs Christopher Smith shooting 65 in 44:06.

Which is more impressive, assuming courses are the same difficulty?

Smith: http://jacksonpark.cpdgolf.com/

It would be? Google is amazing. But can't most of the stuff on this forum be Googled? :)

I'd say Christopher Smith's one is more impressive? That is a really low score. And that is also really fast.

    • Context:  I am on vacation, so I don't have access to my indoor practice room, and I won't for about a month. Day 12 (August 22).  Today's weather was not one where even I was going to be outside.  For whatever reason, I didn't do the putting drill today.  There was a drill I remembered from this site (the article was something akin to "five things you can do to improve that don't require talent") that involved having an iron along the back from stance, moving to backswing and holding, then moving to forward swing and holding.  So I did that for five minutes today. I also spent 90 minutes at the gym;  my main motivation for getting stronger is golf related (and I really should get back to Fit For Golf  specific workouts;  I'm not sure when I lost that habit, a poor choice on my part that I did).  Funny story, I spent 20 minutes on the Stairmaster today at the gym (the rest was weights and rests), a device I started with shortly after I took up golf because I read something about it in a Butch Harmon book.  I should be following FFG Mike's fitness advice though, not some memory of someone else.
    • Day 8 8-22 Worked on backswing length and getting some speed in backswing. Recorded swings. Was happy with practice session tonight.
    • Day 325 - 2025-08-22 Practiced for almost an hour after cleaning my cabinets to account for the new GEARS cameras and helping @OBlum for a bit. Exaggerating the same old things.
    • Yea, faster greens = shorter putting stroke. You can be more accurate.  Really, I think people who struggle with distance control struggle just as much on slow greens as fast greens. I've seen people blast putts 10-FT past the hole on 8 or 9 STIMP as much as 11-12 STIMP.  I prefer faster greens. Usually means the putting surface is better and again, shorter putting stroke.
