I don't recommend buying that netting. You'll punch a hole through it fairly quickly, especially if it's taut.

I recommend you talk to the guys at http://westcoastnetting.com or http://thenethouse.net (same store as far as I can tell).

For example: http://www.westcoastnetting.com/netting-products/sports/golf-barrier/cages/golf-cage-custom-1.html at 10' x 10' x 10' with archery netting on the sides and PR-20 on the impact area and velcro straps: $1300 or so.

P.S. This seems to be the same thing for a bit less: http://www.westcoastnetting.com/netting-products/sports/golf-barrier/cages/golf-cage-50.html . You can get it with a steel frame too for about $1175. Impact area upgraded to PR-20.

I have none. But good netting is actually expensive. We replaced (or covered up and use as backing) our netting downtown at http://thegolfevolution.com/metro . It wore through two layers of cheaper (still not cheap) netting. In fact, the "cheap" netting cost more than the $199 stuff you were talking about.

They all get holes in them. I just use the sunshade material until holes form then replace them. All nets get holes in them because of the spinning balls with some dirt on them. They get abraded and just one knot broken will let a ball through. The sunshade material works for bad mishits, and I replace the target material a lot more often.

Not entirely true.

The archery netting we have now has seen a LOT of impacts from closer range and you can barely tell.

@iacas is your net outside? Do the balls hit into them have dirt on them like ours will being in our backyard?

They're inside, of course: http://thegolfevolution.com/metro . Clean the balls if dirt is that big of an issue.

The point remains that the original "golf netting" that we got wore out in no time… and then a second layer wore out, and then we replaced it with the archery netting and you can barely tell it's been hit into at all, two+ years later.

@Lihu it looks like you are using shade cloth in place of netting. That would be more durable and economical. I am sure not going to buy a $1100.00+ net.

What do you use for the impact area?

Same stuff. Each layer wears out in a few thousand impacts to the same 6-8" area. I flip it around and use the other side until it wears out. The stuff is cheap, $80 for enough material to cover the 10' cube. $120 if you buy from Home Depot. The stuff out of the impact area has lasted over a year. The sun will damage it before I put holes in it. Impact area costs about $20 every 3 months if you hit a lot of balls. To clarify, I hit 9i for a few thousand shots before the 9i/PW spot wears out. 8i/7i are a different spot, etc.

@Lihu can you post a picture when you get a chance of the impact section. It looks like from the previous pictures you had something hanging from a pipe.

And we do not have winds like the Santa Aba just an occasional hurricane. :-D

I can, it's not worn right now as much because I get unlimited range balls and haven't used it that much recently. You might be able to watch some of my swing videos as well. Let me know if that's enough? Hurricane winds might be too much for my structure. I would make it from SS rods welded and buried about 6 feet with concrete pillars. :-D

I have a mat that I made from materials from Home Depot for around $25 and a mat on top of that that is a $68 mat from D W Quail standard package. I should have gotten the "pro package". I wore a hole in it and it simulates divots better.

You can get professional mats which last longer, but this one seems okay for my use.

Wow, I am reading The Inner Game of Golf. I think this will be a game changer.

The author talks about something I had used in the past with some success.

I would sing a song in my head when I got up and hit the ball. This occupies your thoughts instead of a million other distracting thoughts and

lets your swing that you have in you come out.

Another thing he advises is to just swing the club back and forth and see what you feel. Like tension or tightness. I was doing this today and when

I sped my swing up to full speed I started lunging my lower body toward the ball. I eased up on the swing and just did a turn without exerting

so much force and I could still swoosh the club. Very interesting.

This is a contraption I modified to help me sense when I am doing the wrong and the right things in my swing. It was something a friend made for me when

I was a beekeeper. It is called a hive stand used when inspecting the hive.

I put my butt up against the horizontal and on the back swing my right hip pushes into it. On the down swing my left hip should return to the bar and slide forward

at the same time till I push into the orange rod.

The diagonal rod in the ground lets me sense when my right knee jutts out toward the ball at the start of my down swing. A BIG problem I have.

Address Position

Impact position. Weight shifted forward right knee not bend toward ball.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
