The difference with Sergio and Daly or even a cat like Woody Austin is there Nationality. If Sergio Was American he would be the darling of the Tour. The amount of abuse the lad took early in his career from the American fans was unreal. No wonder the kid is a little paranoid. Watch some of the old footage from the US Open where some New Yorker is yelling at Sergio to HIT THE BALL and then he hits it and he yells ALL THAT - FOR THAT. Spring ahead to Davis Love and the WGC match play a couple years ago and he has a fan thrown out for saying that Tiger was going to win. Little difference in Tolerance level and abuse level there. No buddy is asking if Davis Love is a Spoiled Brat (which he is and they all are).

I see your point. I don't know if it's Nationality. Do you remember Seve? He's was about as popular as it got then. New York City fans hate a lot of people and they think they are at a baseball game. To my recollection, SG probably deserved that comment even if it was shouted from the gallery. At that time, he re-gripped for 30+ seconds after taking his stance. He doesn't do that anymore. I like the guy. He just isn't as good as people hoped. I like Daly and Austin because they are people stories as well as golf stories. Their being Americans just makes the interviews easier to understand.

Best, Mike Elzey

I doubt it. Wouldn't change the way I think of him.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

He's a pig.

How would you like to be the guy to pick the next ball out of the hole he spit in??

Plus he is a crybaby, of course when he is not being a showboat..

Perfect example for my 3 sons NOT to be like.

I think there are a couple of factors I may not understand. He is from Spain and Ive never been there so I dont know what the whole feel of the country is and he comes from money in spain. Maybe thats how rich people are there? I dont know. Im not judging, but its possible that he may act in a maner that Americans just dont understand in the same way other counties mite. That being said, I think he is a head case and will never win a major, ever.

Lost Ball would use the caddie for that

Golf is so popular simply because it is the best game in the world at which to be bad.

Sergio is a spoiled punk....no two ways about it. His reaction to CHOKING at the Open Championship last year was the most embarrassing thing I have seen in pro golf. He can hit great shots...except whe n they count the most. Until he learns how to lose (and win) with grace and class, I will cheer for everyone else ....even Rory

Does his personality have some flaws, sure . . . what personality doesn't?

What I do know is I met him at a tournament and my take on him is that he's not at all a bad guy. His behavioral glitches may come from frustration. If I hadn't met him I'd probably agree with those who think he's a bit rotten, but it helps to actually see the person in real life to make a judgement, if you met him I think you would like him.

Same with Colt Knost, some people on the forum are saying bad things about him but if you met him you find he's a decent guy. Come to think of it I've never met a golfer pro or amateur whom I didn't like, the game humbles us all and provides common ground, we all have to take our medicine.

i hav more respect for sergio than tiger :) wooooooooooooo

Really? I like phil way more than Tiger, but his work ethic and positive attitude are great. Only thing I dont like is what I call his, "win win win win win" attitude. I golf for fun so I just dont understand it I guess.

lol nah i dont tiger is awesome but i do like sergio im so sick of ppl panzing up golf lol if tiger swore we wouldnt be talkng about it as if sergio or rory did

Thats true. The golden child will not be spoken of in an ill manner. For that matter ever since Woody put the media in their place the European players get way less slack than the Americans?

Well spitting into the cup would definitely qualify as spoiled brat behavior to me. The thing is he thinks he deserves to win a major, and nobody deserves anything on the PGA you have to earn it. Golf is a game of tough breaks as we all know so that is not an execuse for not winning. Whining about not winning, is not winning him any new fans in my opinion.

I see Garcia as a spoiled baby that will realize his potential when he matures, which most likely won't happen for another ten years, if ever.

    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
    • I use GPS;  it may not be as accurate, but neither am I.
