Practice session. First, working on some 1/4 - 1/2 swings:

Then working on some slow swings:

NOTE: For some reason auto-embedding doesn't seem to be working. @iacas?

What I'm working on:

-Keeping "belt buckle" pointing down at ball longer

-Separating lead shoulder from head at beginning of downswing (it tends to "pull" my head with it)

-Keeping hands in front of body

-Keeping elbow in on backswing more

-Shortening backswing (never-ending battle)

NOTE: middle swing is a slow practice swing

Working on 50-60 yd. shots. Also a flop shot thrown in at end of Down-the-line video. Camera angles not great. Working on:

-Keeping head steady
-Keeping belt buckle pointing to ball longer
-Keeping hands in front of body

Working on a drill to get that left hip turned and up earlier in the down swing. Drill works well, but when I add some speed, it's harder to maintain.

As you know, the more you work on it, the better you get and the faster you can do it successfully.

Working out straightening left leg, and keeping head back in downswing. Both caddie view and down the line view in same video. Down the line shot isn't as pulled as it looks - feet are open to camera line - bad angle.

Happy Winter Solstice everyone! It only gets better from here.

I need a priority piece for the next couple of months. Below is a video of my swing (I know, no ball, big no-no, but I was impatient). My ball flight on the course has been decent lately, small draw, and scores have been coming down substantially (although it's off season and I can't post them). My miss has been a low hook. Assuming my on course swing looks more or less like this, should I work on:

a) Getting the back-swing more on plane (it's a bit inside)

b) Shortening the swing a bit and getting a bit less across the line, elbow should be tucked in more at top

c) getting the weight forward better on downswing (which I struggle with because it pulls my head forward, causing other issues)

d) Getting hips more open at impact (another struggle, as I then tend to open shoulders too fast and come over the top)

e) Straightening left leg earlier (which I also struggle with because it seems to pull me out of my swing and cause contact issues)

f) Something else entirely

Your input would be GREATLY appreciated!

@chspeed, what is your goal for A4? If I were you, I would let the club lay off a bit more before starting the DS (right wrist bend back more little more skywards). I think you can hinge a bit earlier (A2) too.

Of course, please take this with a grain of salt but it has worked for me greatly and I have a similar club path issue.

@chspeed, I love ya man, but those are practice swings. Not even hitting a wadded up ball of paper or anything. Odds that those look like your actual swing are slim.

Thanks @GolfLug

I'd love my A4 to look more like the picture below, even with the elbow a bit more tucked in and the club more laid off. I can (and have) worked on this, and can generally change the picture when I focus on it. When I get to the course, I often revert to a longer, looser swing. If this should be my priority, I believe I can do it. In terms of A2, I agree, I seem to cock the wrist late, which may cause other issues in the back-swing. Again, something I can consciously change, but should that be a priority?

I knew you'd say that. 😂

OK, OK, will post swing with ball this weekend.

Went to the range to film the swing. As @iacas magically knew, the swing doesn't look quite the same. I'm a bit more across the line at the top, didn't do as good of a job with Key #1, and flipped more than I did without a ball 🤔. Ball flight was decent. Any help with priorities would be greatly appreciated!

Decided to work on a&b (better backswing) for now. Working at home. slow and specific swing. That funny thing I'm swinging at is a rolled up sock.🤓

    • Couple things to update First on the clubs/ball. I switched golf balls to the Left Dash ProV1x. It seems like a great fit for me. I always need lower spin off the tee, it's about a half club longer into greens, and still gives me enough spin with chips and pitches to hit whatever shot I need. The durability is insane too, played 35 holes with one over my last two rounds and it still looked brand new until I lost it. Hybrid is no longer. Couldn’t quite get a consistent strike and the random snap hook left was always lurking as soon as the strike drifted out towards the toe. I know it was me not the club but I couldn’t stand the lefts anymore. Titliest fitting guy came to our club a few days ago and I had been curious about the T200 3iron. I hit a few with it and the stock HZRDUS graphite shaft, it wasn’t bad at all but I could definitely tell when I mishit it. Then the fitter had me try the U505 3iron. When he asked if I was open to trying it I said something like “Isn’t that the game improvement one?” and he said “Just trust me and hit a few with it”. Within 5 swings I was sold. Suddenly it didn’t look as big and chunky when I started hitting rocket after rocket. It did every single thing I want a 3 iron to do. It flies very high, forgiving, can hit it off the tee and ground, can flight it low when needed, and best of all, it doesn’t go left. He had me try to snap hook one left and it resulted in a nice tight draw, nowhere close to a hook. Tried it with the stock shaft and their upgraded one, ended up hitting it the best with the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-95. Ended up getting a great deal on a used one that arrived yesterday so going to go measure my numbers with it today at the range. I expect to be using this a lot for 2nd shots into par 5s, being that 230-250 club. Hit some on the Mevo+ yesterday and the distance is exactly what I needed.     From a playing perspective, been playing pretty solid so far this season, driving and putting have been solid overall, approach shots have been good for the most part and short game wasn't great to start the year but it's been getting better lately with some more dedicated practice. Compared to scratch over 7 rounds:
    • so with the driver. Feel more arm  width at A4. keep an in the eye on the ball. The first move from the top is lowering the hands down. Don’t mix that up with looking up at the target as the club comes down from A4 with the body. Feel like I get width with the arms from the chest in the Downswing.

    • Went back and reviewed my rounds this year at my home course to fill out the spreadsheet. Realized I have made at least par on each hole but two that I have bogied. At my skill level, it gives me a new confidence that I can play each hole decently well and strong together a lower score. Great mental boost.
